Since 2003, Nammos has been the name of a beach rather than a hotel: that of Psarou in Mykonos, where the seafront restaurant has become the most photographed rendezvous in the Cyclades. On 7 September 2026, the brand opened its very first hotel, and it is not in Greece: Nammos Resort AMAALA stands proudly in Triple Bay, on the Saudi coast of the Red Sea. One hundred and ten rooms, twenty residences, architecture designed by Foster + Partners, and a beach club set on a private island. Here is what we know about this opening, and what it reveals about Saudi strategy.

From Psarou beach to the Red Sea
Nammos was built in reverse of traditional hotel brands. The name originally belonged to a beach restaurant opened in 2003 on Psarou in Mykonos, which over successive summers became a destination in its own right, later expanding to Dubai, Cannes, Saint-Moritz, and Limassol. While the brand did have a hotel address in Mykonos, it is in AMAALA, over two thousand kilometres from the Cyclades, that it is opening its first complete resort and its first property outside Greece. The gamble is to transpose a Mediterranean beach atmosphere, defined by long tables and sunset music, into a country building its luxury tourism from a blank canvas.

Foster + Partners between the Cyclades and the Saudi coast
The design was entrusted to Foster + Partners, Norman Foster’s British architectural firm, which is already heavily involved in major Saudi projects. The chosen design vocabulary crosses two references: white volumes, curves, and Cycladic patios on one hand, and the materials and colours of the Saudi coastline on the other. The buildings remain low-rise and sandy in tone, designed to blend into the landscape rather than dominate it, featuring expansive terraces opening onto the bay. The resort comprises 110 rooms and 20 branded residences ranging from one to three bedrooms, complemented by a three-bedroom penthouse.

A beach club on a private island
This is the centerpiece and the most direct translation of the brand’s DNA. Nammos Beach Club occupies a private island connected to the resort by a walkway and served by a pontoon, a configuration that recreates the ethos of Psarou: you leave the hotel to go to the beach, and the beach is the spectacle. The Nammos restaurant serves its Mediterranean menu by the water’s edge, facing the sunset over the Red Sea, complete with an infinity pool that appears to extend into the bay. The resort also features several dining venues, including Omnia, and a rooftop bar, Horizon.

Spa, families, and resort life
Nammos Spa offers a programme named “Boundless Wellbeing”, set within a destination that has made wellness its core positioning. The Blu Kids Club welcomes children with nature and craft-based activities, a significant indicator: while the Mykonos clientele is predominantly adult and festive, the demographic targeted by AMAALA is broader and often family-oriented. Finally, a marina and seafront pathways connect the resort to the rest of the destination, allowing guests to leave the hotel without needing a car.

What this opening says about AMAALA
AMAALA is one of the major destinations developed by Red Sea Global, alongside The Red Sea. With Nammos, six resorts are now open out of the nine planned, representing a total announced of over 1,600 rooms. The Saudi strategy is clearly evident in this choice: rather than solely lining up major international brands, the destination is sourcing lifestyle brands identified with an atmosphere rather than a standardized service model. Carolyn Turnbull, Managing Director of Nammos Hotels & Resorts, describes the opening as “a new chapter” for the brand, while John Pagano, CEO of Red Sea Global, sees it as an additional art de vivre dimension for the destination. Our perspective
Transposing Mykonos to the Red Sea is a double-edged sword. What makes Nammos special in Psarou is as much about the setting as the bustling crowds and the three-month season; in AMAALA, everything is brand new, serene, and open year-round. The resort will be judged on its ability to generate genuine vitality rather than merely reproducing visual codes, and the island beach club will shoulder that responsibility. Above all, we note the signal sent to the market: following branded luxury hotels, Saudi Arabia is now acquiring lifestyle brands, which are quicker to establish in travellers’ imaginations. We will go and see firsthand what a sunset in Triple Bay looks like.
