At the World Travel Awards Europe gala, held on 17 October 2026 in Kotor, Montenegro, Six Senses Douro Valley won the title of Portugal’s Leading Boutique Hotel. It beat fifteen other nominees, including The Yeatman, the Bairro Alto Hotel in Lisbon and Casa da Companhia in Porto. It is the hotel’s second win in this category, after 2024; in 2025, the title went to The Lumiares.

The Greenhouse Table is a series of very intimate dinners: eight guests a night, not one more. Chef Rui Paula opened it from 8 to 12 September 2026. From 28 to 31 October, it is the turn of Lucas Azevedo, born in Rio de Janeiro and now at the helm of the Ryoshi and Enso restaurants in Lisbon.

His eight-course menu follows the spirit of kaiseki, which puts the season and the produce first, using Portuguese ingredients: grouper, lobster, squid, sea bream, Douro almonds and dry-aged Maronesa beef, a local breed from the north of the country. Dessert pairs quince poached in white port, hojicha tea ice cream and a chestnut and matcha wagashi, a small Japanese sweet. Dinner costs €150 per person, with a wine pairing at €95 or an alcohol-free pairing at €65; booking is essential, via the hotel’s website or on +351 254 660 600.

The manor overlooks terraced vineyards in the heart of the world’s oldest demarcated wine region, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Turned into a hotel in 2007, it was completely redesigned to become a Six Senses. It has 71 rooms, suites and villas: Quinta Deluxe rooms of 40 to 46 m², fifth-floor Quinta Panorama Suites that seem to plunge into the river, nine Valley Rooms and Suites in the former wine cellar, and one- or two-bedroom villas with a heated private pool.

The Six Senses Spa covers 2,200 m² with 10 treatment rooms. The indoor pool looks out over the Douro and features underwater music, colour effects and massage jets. Around it: sauna, infrared sauna, hammam, herbal sauna, cryotherapy, gym and yoga studio. The signature Warming Schist Vinotherapy treatment starts with a grape seed and port scrub, followed by a massage with warm schist stones. At the Alchemy Bar, guests blend their own scrubs and masks.

The Vale de Abraão restaurant combines an open kitchen, a dining room and a terrace over the vines. At the Wine Library, Cozinha do Douro serves cooking from the valley, alongside tastings led by the sommelier. Two organic kitchen gardens, one on the estate and the other at the neighbouring Quinta do Mourão, supply the kitchens: 8,706 kg of vegetables, fruit and herbs in 2025. In September and October, guests can also tread grapes barefoot in granite tanks, as harvest tradition dictates.
