In Dr. Nice, the ZDF medical series, the Ostseeschlösschen hotel is played by a real property: Boutique Hotel Wassersleben in Harrislee, on the shores of the Flensburg Fjord, just a stone’s throw from the Danish border. An old house with 22 rooms, all overlooking the water, featuring a beach in front and a forest behind. As new episodes arrive this autumn, here is where the series was filmed and what you need to know to stay there.
- 🎬 The series · Dr. Nice, broadcast by ZDF since April 2023, starring Patrick Kalupa as the featured surgeon exiled in Flensburg.
- 🏨 The hotel · Boutique Hotel Wassersleben in Harrislee is the Ostseeschlösschen from the series.
- 🛏️ The rooms · 22, all facing the fjord, most with a balcony.
- 🌊 The setting · the beach in front, a forest behind, and trails leading to Denmark.
- ⚠️ Not to be confused · Best Western Hotel des Nordens, also in Harrislee, is not the hotel from the series.
Hotel Wassersleben, the real Ostseeschlösschen

In the series, surgeon Moritz Neiss, known as “Nice”, arrives in Flensburg following an accident that derailed his career, only to discover he has a 16-year-old daughter. The Ostseeschlösschen, Jannes’s hotel where head chef Desna Shan works, serves as one of the recurring backdrops for this small community. Boutique Hotel Wassersleben lends its walls to the show, occupying a building dating back to the 18th century, situated right on Wassersleben beach, 8 km from Flensburg.
A common misconception circulates online: Best Western Hotel des Nordens, a four-star property with 127 rooms also located in Harrislee, is sometimes presented as the hotel from the series. No production-related source indicates this, and published location scouts consistently point to Wassersleben.
22 rooms facing the fjord
The 22 rooms, divided into Classic, Deluxe, Atelier Deluxe, and Elegance categories, all look out over the water, and most feature a balcony. With creaking floorboards, winding corridors, and beach-hut patterned wallpaper, the hotel embraces the charm of an old house, while noting that it is not accessible to guests with reduced mobility. Cancellation is free up to three days prior to arrival.
A beach in front, a forest behind
The front door opens onto the beach, while the back door leads directly to the forest. Walking trails connect to Denmark via the former Schusterkate border crossing, leading all the way to Kollund. On the beach, the hotel’s Strandbude serves cakes, fish and chips, and fish sandwiches. The property also hosts weddings for up to 120 guests, complete with an on-site registry office.
