Mandarin Oriental Exceptional Homes brings together houses that belong to private owners and that the hotel group rents out under its own name. Mykonos, Corfu and Lefkada are three entirely new destinations: in Greece, the collection already offered Villa Aegean and Villa Caldera on Santorini, as well as Vanikiba in Porto Heli, in the Peloponnese. It now numbers 44 homes in 18 destinations, from the Côte d’Azur to the English Cotswolds, from Mallorca to Puglia, all the way to Bali and Phuket.

“Greece is a natural focus for the growth of Mandarin Oriental Exceptional Homes. These four additions allow us to offer a richer and more varied expression of the country, from the Cyclades to the Ionian Islands,” says Philip Leighton, the collection’s director. The Cyclades are the Aegean archipelago that includes Mykonos; the Ionian Islands, Corfu and Lefkada among them, line the country’s west coast.

The largest of the four stands in Fokos, on the north coast of Mykonos. Designed by Greek architect Loukas Bobotis, Casa Gaia sleeps up to 18 guests in nine en-suite bedrooms. It boasts a 27-metre infinity pool, a second pool, a private cinema, a fire pit and a private path leading down to a secluded beach. Rates: from €69,062 a week.

On Corfu, VAYRA is carved into a hillside

In Kentroma, on the island of Corfu, VAYRA sinks into an 8,000 m² hillside. The red rock dug out during the earthworks was reused in the walls and pathways, and the gardens by landscape designer Eleni Tsirintani keep their centuries-old olive trees. Together, the main house and guest house offer five suites for 10 guests, two infinity pools, a roof terrace, wellness facilities, a padel court (a racket sport close to tennis) and a pétanque court, from €24,360 a week.

Also on Corfu, in Gimari, Villa Alice is a contemporary house set over a series of terraces, with an infinity pool facing the Ionian Sea. It sleeps up to 8 guests and opens the range: from €17,059 a week, the lowest rate of the four newcomers.

Designed by Greek architect Spiros Scafidas, it has five en-suite bedrooms for 10 guests and looks out over the Lefkada channel and the islands of Meganissi, Thilia and Skorpios. Its private bay has its own floating jetty, and a fleet of boats is included in the rental, alongside the infinity pool. Rates: from €49,700 a week.
