A voted title, already won in 2015 and 2017

The World Travel Awards are a commercial tourism awards scheme: winners are chosen by online votes, country by country and category by category. The title of Canada’s best hotel suite was presented at one of the organisation’s regional galas, for the Caribbean and the Americas, held on 11 October 2026 in Jamaica during World Travel Week, from 10 to 15 October. It is therefore not a ranking drawn up by inspectors, but a popularity award the hotel can now display.
For the Royal Suite, it is a comeback. It had already won this category in 2015 and again in 2017; from 2018 to 2025, the title went to the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto and its suites. The Montreal suite thus reclaims a place it had not held for nine years. The same 2026 awards also honoured other addresses around the world, such as the Carlton Tel Aviv, named Israel’s best hotel.
1964, the Taylor and Burton wedding

What truly sets this suite apart is its history. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton married here in 1964, and the ceremony took place in the Royal Suite itself, not in one of the hotel’s function rooms. More than sixty years on, it is this wedding, as much as its size, that people first associate with the Royal Suite.
What lies inside a 435 m² suite?
According to the official description from Marriott, owner of the Ritz-Carlton brand, the Royal Suite spans 4,700 square feet, around 435 m², the size of a large house. It brings together three bedrooms, four bathrooms, two living rooms and a separate dining room, plus a butler’s pantry.
The suite has a marble-clad fireplace, and its bathrooms feature a deep soaking tub. The dining room, decorated with murals, seats ten, enough to host a private dinner without leaving the suite.
On Sherbrooke Street since 1912, reopened in 2012

The hotel opened on 31 December 1912 at 1228 Sherbrooke Street West, in Montreal. Closed in 2008, it underwent a four-year restoration costing 200 million dollars before reopening in 2012 with 96 rooms and 33 suites.
The hotel describes itself as the only AAA Five Diamond hotel in Quebec, the highest rating in the American Automobile Association’s hotel guide. It is also home to an art gallery, the Cosner gallery. Elsewhere in Quebec, see our guide to the Château Frontenac, and in Montreal itself Hotel SonoLux, a boutique hotel devoted to sound art.
Maison Boulud and the Palm Court
The hotel’s restaurant, Maison Boulud, bears the signature of chef Daniel Boulud. Its terrace overlooks the garden and its pond, for lunch or dinner outdoors in fine weather.
The Palm Court serves afternoon tea and is home to a Dom Pérignon champagne bar, according to the hotel.
Spa and saltwater pool with city views
For wellbeing, the hotel has a spa and an indoor saltwater pool with views over the city. The spa’s relaxation room has a fireplace, welcome during the long Montreal winter.
The Royal Suite’s rate is available from the hotel on request. For the night of Wednesday 20 to Thursday 21 January 2027, for two on a flexible rate, Marriott’s official website lists the Deluxe King room at CA$837 before taxes, or CA$996 including taxes and fees, and the Signature King at CA$900 before taxes (prices checked on 17 October 2026).
