119 rooms in Vancouver’s tallest tower

The future Park Hyatt Vancouver is not a new build: it is the former Shangri-La Vancouver, at 1128 West Georgia Street, right in the city centre. Hyatt has run it since summer 2025 under an interim name, Hyatt Vancouver Downtown Alberni, during a multi-million-dollar renovation of the rooms, public areas, spa and lobby, the latter reimagined with a residential feel.
The 119 rooms occupy the tallest tower in the city, with views over the harbour, the Coast Mountains and the downtown rooftops, a short walk from the luxury boutiques of Alberni Street. Once rebranded, it will be Vancouver’s first Park Hyatt, the brand’s first address on Canada’s West Coast and the fifth Hyatt hotel in British Columbia.
When will the Park Hyatt Vancouver open?

Hyatt announced the conversion on 1 July 2025, aiming at the time for an opening under the Park Hyatt flag in 2026. In December 2025, the project still featured on the list of Park Hyatt openings the group presented at the ILTM luxury travel show in Cannes, alongside Mexico City, Cancún, Cabo del Sol and Phu Quoc, in Vietnam. The press release of 28 October 2026 now refers to an “anticipated opening”, without giving any date.
In the meantime, the hotel remains open and so does its restaurant: Carlino, recommended by the Michelin Guide and recently refurbished, serves Northern Italian cuisine, with fresh house-made pasta, a seasonal menu and local produce.
Haida Gwaii, two houses of the Haida Nation
The release’s other piece of news comes from the north-west of the country: the Unscripted by Hyatt brand will make its Canadian debut through an agreement with Haida Enterprise Corporation, the economic arm of the Haida Nation, the Indigenous people of the Haida Gwaii archipelago off the coast of British Columbia. Two properties are involved, both on Graham Island: Haida House at Tllaal, in Tlell, and Ocean House at Tlaga Gawtlaas, in Old Massett.
Both houses remain Haida: they keep their ownership and their identity. For Leticia Hill, CEO of Haida Enterprise Corporation, they remain deeply rooted in Haida Gwaii, and the agreement is above all meant to introduce them to a wider audience without breaking their bond with the land.
Among the Niagara vineyards, The Clayfield
Among the recent openings Hyatt is highlighting, The Clayfield opened on 17 September 2026 in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, under The Unbound Collection by Hyatt label. The architecture is by Sid Lee Architecture, a Montreal practice; the restaurant, Terrain, is led by chef Joel LaBute for The Ascari Group, and the hotel also has a rooftop and a clay-inspired spa. We had previewed The Clayfield hotel before its opening.
Toronto in the east, Vancouver in the west

Hyatt presents the Park Hyatt Vancouver as a significant expansion of its luxury offering in Canada. On the Pacific coast, it will echo Park Hyatt Toronto in the east, whose Writers Room bar looks out onto the CN Tower. Ten openings expected in Canada in 2027
In substance, the release of 28 October 2026 comes down to three figures: a portfolio four times larger since 2017, more than 40 signed deals and 10 hotels expected in 2027, which would make it Hyatt’s biggest year of openings in the country. The group does not, however, give a total number of hotels, either for 2017 or for today.
The rest of the growth comes from more affordable brands: Hyatt Select Kingston, in Ontario, expected later in 2026, then in 2027 a dual-branded project in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, combining Hyatt Select and Hyatt Studios, an extended-stay brand of suites with kitchens.
