Aman Essentials, the Aman lifestyle brand launched in 2018, had never worked with a designer before. Aman x Kim Jones is its first collaboration, built around one idea, “Lines of Passage”: the routes travelled and the landscapes crossed on the way from one hotel to the next. The collection draws on the landscapes, colours and experiences of more than 30 Aman destinations. The group, founded in 1988 by Adrian Zecha with Amanpuri in Phuket and now chaired by Vladislav Doronin, is in effect slipping its hotels into its guests’ suitcases.

The choice of designer was no accident. Kim Jones has stayed at more than 30 Aman destinations and, in the interview published in the Aman Essentials journal, describes himself in his own words: “I’m a proper Aman Junkie.” Kristina Romanova, CEO of Aman Essentials, sums up her choice in one sentence: “He understands the world of quiet luxury better than anyone.”

For the palette, the designer started from a traveller’s keepsake: the luggage tags from his favourite Aman hotels. “I have a bag full of all these tags, and every Aman has its own,” he says. Across the collection you will find a mineral blue on the fleece and the striped pyjamas, yellow on the hoodie and the one-piece swimsuit, and kombu green, a deep seaweed green, on the draped silk dress.

Why Kim Jones went for a sporty wardrobe

The wardrobe openly embraces a sporty side. Kim Jones puts it down to life at Aman hotels: far from the cities, guests move from a workout to a snorkelling trip or a hike, and they need practical clothes. The eight product categories follow that logic: tailoring in technical fabrics, knitwear, silk, outerwear, swimwear, jersey, sportswear and accessories (caps, a bucket hat, nylon mules, a woven tote).

The pieces are mostly unisex, from XS to XL depending on the style. Kristina Romanova, for her part, stresses the choice of responsible, low-impact fabrics.
