Ensana, which describes itself as Europe’s leading group of spa and health hotels (according to the brand), is expanding into Germany with the Fürstenhof. Launched in 2019, the brand runs spa and health hotels in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Georgia and Bulgaria, and has projects in the pipeline in Italy and Saudi Arabia. The reopening was celebrated by the hotel’s general manager, Ralf Müller, and the CEO of Ensana Hotels, Frank Halmos, alongside the mayor of Bad Griesbach, Jürgen Fundke.

The spa brings together two indoor pools and one outdoor pool filled with thermal water, two whirlpools, saunas, a hammam and a salt grotto, with generous relaxation areas and around 1,000 m² of open-air sun terrace. The hotel’s website lists a Finnish sauna, a sanarium (a gentler sauna), two steam baths and a cold plunge pool. The pools are open every day of the year from 7am to 8pm, the saunas from 11am to 8pm.

The water comes from the town’s healing springs. According to Ensana, it is drawn from a depth of 1,000 metres and is more than 10,000 years old. It is a fluoride, bicarbonate and sodium chloride water, rich in minerals. The hotel’s concept combines these natural healing resources with medical expertise and quality hospitality.

Every room has been redesigned. The smallest, the Classic Double, measures 19.2 m²; the Premium Double Deluxe, at 24.7 m², has a balcony. The suites range from 37.3 to 47.7 m²: the Gallery Junior Suite with balcony, the 43 m² Junior Suite with a sitting area, and the Panorama Suite, the largest, also with a balcony. Small pets are welcome for €15 a night.

A medical centre due in early 2027

The next step is the opening, in early 2027, of a medical wing. It will offer tailored programmes focused on muscle and joint health, stress reduction and overall wellbeing. The spa already has four medical examination rooms, two nursing treatment rooms and a gym. Bad Griesbach is part of Lower Bavaria’s ‘spa triangle’, known for its natural thermal springs. The hotel sits next to Europe’s largest golf resort, according to Ensana: ten courses spread over 476 hectares. On request, the hotel arranges transfers from Munich, Linz or Salzburg airports.
