Eight episodes and a G7 filmed in Tuscany

Season 4 of The Diplomat has eight episodes, all streaming since 15 October 2026. In the last two, Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), Hal, President Grace Penn, Todd, Eidra, Stuart and Billie gather in Italy for a G7 summit. The rest of the season was filmed in New York and the United Kingdom, where nine locations stand in for Windsor Castle, including Belvoir Castle and Burghley House.
The Tuscan shoot ran from May to June 2026, with support from the Toscana Film Commission. The historic centre of Lucca, dressed as the G7 summit, was filmed on 13 and 14 May.
Where does Grace take Kate to pick basil?
To house the delegations, the production chose Villa Viesca and Villa Gelso, two of the estate’s houses, according to Netflix. It is in the greenhouse that Grace takes Kate to pick basil, and the walk-and-talk conversations between the President and the Vice President were also shot on site.
The metal and glass greenhouse measures around 50 m². It seats around thirty guests and is also used for yoga and meditation.
The Ferragamos’ summer villa, bought in 1950

Viesca is an estate of Renaissance origin that Salvatore Ferragamo, founder of the shoemaking house that bears his name, and his wife Wanda bought in 1950 as their private residence. The family restored the main villa and the neighbouring farmhouses, where they spent their summers.
The estate covers 70 hectares, about 25 km from Florence and 35 km from Arezzo. In the outbuildings of Villa Viesca, a farming museum gathers more than 300 objects from rural life.
Nine frescoed bedrooms and six more villas
Villa Viesca, the main house, is let in its entirety: nine en-suite bedrooms, frescoes, large fireplaces and a private infinity pool. Six other villas complete the offer: Gelso, Mulino, Due Torri, Merlo, Pozzo and Acciaioli.
Villa Gelso, a former Tuscan farmhouse in rustic style, sleeps up to 16 guests, or 22 with the neighbouring Il Roseto cottage, and has a heated pool and a panoramic terrace. The estate also offers 20 suites: 14 in the hamlet of Borgo di Pian Rinaldi, 3 at Il Roseto and 3 at the Due Torri Family Cottage.
Lucca, Marlia, La Petraia: the rest of the G7
The fictional summit spans five other Tuscan locations, according to Netflix. The meeting rooms are not at Viesca: they are split between two historic villas.
| Location | What you see in the series |
|---|---|
| Lucca (historic centre) | the outdoor scenes with Stuart, Eidra and Billie |
| Villa Reale di Marlia | the delegation rooms |
| Villa medicea La Petraia | the large octagonal G7 hall |
| Villa medicea di Poggio a Caiano | the exteriors and the entire concert evening |
| Dimora Ghirlandaio, near Florence | Stuart and Billie’s tense poolside conversation |

Il Borro, the sister estate, is not the set

A misconception is doing the rounds: Il Borro does not appear in the series; Netflix names only Viesca Toscana. There is a link between the two, though: Viesca is run by Il Borro srl, the company behind the Il Borro estate, which presents it as its sister property, and its restaurant is called Il Borro Tuscan Bistro Viesca.
Il Borro, the Ferragamo family’s neighbouring estate in the Valdarno and a Relais & Châteaux member, lies in San Giustino Valdarno, in the province of Arezzo; Viesca is in Reggello, in the province of Florence. Its winery produces 12 wines, 10 of them organic, and its Borgo Deluxe Suite started at €785 including taxes for the night of 28 October 2026 (checked on 20 October 2026).
La Corte spa, a pool and two tennis courts
The La Corte spa brings together a spa suite with a whirlpool bath, a hammam, a sauna and a fitness room. Outside, there is a large freshwater pool and two tennis courts. At the table, Il Borro Tuscan Bistro Viesca serves farm-to-table Tuscan cooking.
Checked on 20 October 2026 for the night of 28 to 29 October: €300 for the Superior Room for two with breakfast, the Deluxe Suite from €360 and the villas from €900.
