A single departure, on Monday 10 May 2027
On Belmond’s booking engine, only one date is open: Monday 10 May 2027, with no other offered through to 2028. The train leaves Paris Gare de l’Est at 3pm and pulls into Monaco-Monte-Carlo station on 11 May at 10.35am, a journey of around 19 hours 35 minutes with one night on board. Belmond notes that these times remain indicative and subject to rail network constraints.
Monaco is not the only destination on this service. The same train stops in Cannes at 9.25am, then continues to Verona and Venice: Belmond is therefore selling Paris-Cannes, Paris-Monaco, Paris-Verona and Paris-Venice on this departure, all from €4,870 per person. The company presents Monte-Carlo as a stop set to return every year to its European calendar; for now, that annual fixture remains an intention.
1977: two sleeping cars bought in Monte-Carlo

The choice of the principality is no coincidence. In 1977, James B. Sherwood, founder of what would become Belmond, bought two original Art Deco sleeping cars at a Sotheby’s auction in Monte-Carlo. Once restored, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express made its inaugural journey in May 1982. The 2027 departure falls fifty years after that sale.
In Belmond’s press release, Pascal Deyrolle, who oversees the group’s trains in continental Europe, highlights Monaco’s singular place in the history of European travel and the special flavour of this return to Monte-Carlo. Today the train runs restored carriages from the 1920s and 1930s.
From 3.3 to 11.13 m²: three types of cabin
Three categories can be booked on this departure. The Historic Cabin measures 3.3 m²: bunk beds that convert into a banquette by day, a washbasin and shared toilets at the end of the carriage. The Suites, Double or Twin, offer 6.6 m² and a private shower room. The Grand Suites, from 10.67 to 11.13 m², add a marble bathroom, a butler, free-flowing champagne, Petrossian caviar and private transfers.
| Category | Size | Per person, two sharing | Single occupancy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Historic Cabin | 3.3 m² | €4,870 | €9,740 |
| Suite (Double or Twin) | 6.6 m² | €11,580 | €23,160 (Double; Twin not offered for single occupancy) |
| Grand Suite | 10.67 to 11.13 m² | €14,780 | €29,560 |
These official fares were checked on belmond.com on 7 October 2026 for the 10 May 2027 departure. L’Observatoire, the carriage designed by the artist JR, is not among the categories that can be booked on this route.
What does the €4,870 entry fare include?

The price covers the night on board, the transfer from your Paris accommodation to the station and a round-the-clock steward service. On top of that come the four-course dinner, with wines chosen by the sommelier, and breakfast served in the cabin: pastries, fresh juice and coffee. The press release specifies that soft drinks are unlimited.
Dinner calls for evening dress, with black tie welcome; jeans are not permitted on board.
Dinner by Jean Imbert, then the Bar Car 3674
The train’s cuisine is the work of chef Jean Imbert. Dinner is served in one of the three dining cars, Étoile du Nord, L’Oriental or Côte d’Azur. The evening then carries on in the Bar Car 3674, over cocktails and piano music. The train belongs to the Belmond group, which also runs the Copacabana Palace in Rio.
Via the Estérel and Cannes to Monte-Carlo

By the time passengers wake, the train is running along the Mediterranean. The press release describes a route past the red rocks of the Estérel massif, Saint-Raphaël, Cannes and Nice, before arriving at the underground Monaco-Monte-Carlo station. In Cannes, the first possible stop, the Hôtel Martinez has created a gourmet collection with Maison Gabrielle; in Monaco, the Société des Bains de Mer is preparing two major projects for 2027.
