Fairmont New Orleans to open 2 November with 250 rooms, twenty years after Katrina

Fairmont returns to New Orleans: the hotel opens on 2 November 2026 with 250 rooms and suites in the former Bank of New Orleans tower, and bookings are now open. The Accor brand has not had an address in the city since 2005, when Hurricane Katrina closed its former hotel, the Roosevelt.

Why Fairmont had left the city

For forty years, Fairmont operated the Roosevelt in New Orleans, a grand hotel opened in 1893 and taken over in 1965. Flooded by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the hotel remained closed for over four years, then was purchased and reopened in 2009 under the Waldorf Astoria brand. The new Fairmont therefore does not occupy this building: it is located at 1010 Common Street, in the business district, a few steps from the Vieux Carré and the Caesars Superdome. The project is led by developer Kailas Companies; Eric Overstreet manages the hotel.

Rockwell Group designed the interiors around a tension between the city and nature: saturated colours, green woodwork, brass. The lobby is organised around a large central bar. The tower, designed in 1970 by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, houses the hotel on 17 of its 31 floors.

Chef Emeril Lagasse, a figure of New Orleans cuisine, signs two addresses: Delmonico Steakhouse, open in the evening with a 1970s-inspired decor, and The Café by Emeril for breakfast and lunch. On the roof, the Third Measure bar features live music and the Bleu Perdu lounge borders the pool, presented as the highest in New Orleans, overlooking the Mississippi.
