From 23 January to 9 February, the key dates

The official Carnival website says so on its home page: the 2027 edition lasts eighteen days, from Saturday 23 January to Tuesday 9 February, Shrove Tuesday. The festival follows the Easter calendar: it will end eight days earlier than in 2026, when Shrove Tuesday fell on 17 February.

The organisers have already set the dates of the official street shows, which bring the squares and campi to life: the first weekend (23 and 24 January), the second (30 and 31 January), then six days in a row from Giovedì grasso on 4 February to Shrove Tuesday on 9 February. These are the liveliest days, and the most in demand at the hotels.

The Carnival also hosts its official dinner show at Ca’ Vendramin Calergi, a palazzo on the Grand Canal: on 30 and 31 January, then every evening from 4 to 9 February, at 9 pm. Premium tables start at €650, and period costume is compulsory: an evening gown or a dinner jacket will not do.

Festa delle Marie, Volo dell’Angelo: what we know

As of 30 October 2026, the detailed 2027 programme has not yet been published: the official calendar lists no dated event. Yet the big events return every year, on St Mark’s Square and on the Grand Canal.

  • The Festa delle Marie (Festival of the Marys), revived in 1999 by the director Bruno Tosi, recalls the abduction of twelve young Venetian women by pirates in 973; in 2026, the “Maria of the Year” was chosen at La Fenice theatre.
  • The Volo dell’Angelo (Flight of the Angel), the signature event on St Mark’s Square: the 2027 date has not yet been announced.
  • The most beautiful mask contest (Maschera più bella), whose winner is crowned on the stage in St Mark’s Square: in 2026, it was on 15 February.
  • The water parades on the Grand Canal, with their costumed boats gliding under the Rialto Bridge.

We will update this guide as soon as the official calendar is published. As for hotel masked balls, no palace has yet announced a date for 2027; the Baglioni Hotel Luna already offers Carnival experiences on its website.

Where to stay near St Mark’s: four palaces

Danieli, its first carnival under Four Seasons

On the Riva degli Schiavoni, facing San Giorgio Maggiore, the Danieli reopened on 30 July 2026 under the Four Seasons flag. Its heart is the Palazzo Dandolo, built in 1471 for the Dandolo family, joined by the Palazzo Casa Nuova, the former Treasury of the Republic. Pierre-Yves Rochon designed the interiors, with Murano glass, terrazzo and Rubelli fabrics. The hotel has 120 rooms and suites, and will have 168 in 2027 with the Palazzo Danieli Excelsior, still under restoration.

Price checked on Booking.com: €1,286 a night from 30 to 31 January in a Deluxe room with a king-size bed, non-refundable, breakfast €65 extra; €1,605 with free cancellation until 27 January.

The Gritti Palace, home of Doge Andrea Gritti

The Gothic palazzo dates back to 1475 and the Pisani family; in 1525, it became the private residence of Doge Andrea Gritti, before being turned into a hotel in the early 19th century. It stands on the Grand Canal, a stone’s throw from La Fenice, and its terraces look across to the Salute basilica.

Price checked on Booking.com (the Marriott booking engine blocked our search): €1,290 a night from 30 to 31 January in a Deluxe room, non-refundable, breakfast €55 extra; €1,348 with breakfast. It is the most expensive of the six.

On the Grand Canal for more than a century and a half, the St. Regis pays tribute to Claude Monet, a former guest, with its Monet suites; the hotel also displays works by Jaume Plensa and Lorenzo Quinn, and its Arts Bar serves art-inspired cocktails. Worth knowing: its Gio’s restaurant is closed from 7 to 29 January, so it reopens in time for the second Carnival weekend.

Baglioni Hotel Luna, a minute from the square

The Baglioni Hotel Luna stands a one-minute walk from St Mark’s Square, and has a Marco Polo ballroom with original 18th-century frescoes. It is also, by far, the least expensive palace in our price check.

Price checked on Booking.com: €576 a night from 30 to 31 January in a 30 m² Double Deluxe room, breakfast included, non-refundable; €639 with cancellation until 25 January.

Three palazzi away from the St Mark’s crowds

Orient Express Venezia, newcomer of the year

Opened in spring 2026 in the Palazzo Donà Giovannelli, built in 1436 where two canals meet in Cannaregio, the Orient Express Venezia will celebrate its first carnival. Architect Aline Asmar d’Amman led eight years of works; there are 47 rooms and suites, including six Signature Suites of up to 145 m², the La Casati restaurant and the Wagon Bar, under the culinary direction of three-Michelin-starred chef Heinz Beck.

Price checked on Booking.com: €1,285 a night from 30 to 31 January in a Superior room, breakfast included, non-refundable; €1,510 with cancellation until 27 January.

Palazzo Venart, 17 rooms and a private jetty

In the sestiere of Santa Croce, the former Palazzo Bacchini delle Palme has just 17 rooms and suites, a garden with a private jetty on the Grand Canal and the Glam restaurant, which the website presents as the only two-Michelin-starred table in Venice. A hideaway far from the parades.

Price checked on Booking.com: €1,097 a night from 30 to 31 January in a 22 m² Classic Double room, breakfast included, non-refundable; €1,218 with cancellation until 27 January.

Aman Venice, only from 3 February

The Palazzo Papadopoli, one of the eight monumental palazzi on the Grand Canal, blends rococo works with understated interiors by Jean-Michel Gathy, around private gardens, a rarity in Venice. But the official booking engine’s calendar shows no availability from 7 January to 2 February 2027: no room on 30 January.

Aim for the final week: €2,640 a night from Giovedì grasso, 4 February, to 5 February in a Palazzo Bedroom of 47 to 77 m², taxes and breakfast included, with a historical tour of the palazzo and access to the altana, the rooftop terrace. The calendar shows €1,760 on 3 February and €3,080 on Saturday 6.

Cipriani, Bauer, Excelsior: all closed

Four great Venetian names will receive no guests during this carnival. On the Giudecca, the Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel, is closed and announces its reopening on 1 June 2027. On the Lido, the Excelsior Venice Lido Resort is a seasonal hotel, open from spring to autumn: no rooms are on sale at the end of January.

Near St Mark’s, the hotel Bauer is still preparing to reopen under the Rosewood flag: the official page announces just over 110 rooms, more than half of them suites, and an outdoor pool on the 8th floor, but no date. As for the Des Bains on the Lido, closed since 2010, work began in September 2026, with a reopening targeted for 2030.

Every price for the night of 30 January

All these rates were checked on 30 October 2026 for two adults and the cheapest room, on the official booking engine (Aman) or on Booking.com, taxes and fees included. No hotel imposed a minimum stay for 30 January. Prices change every day: treat them as a guide.

Which night to book, and at what price?

Saturday 30 January coincides with the official dinner show and the street shows, without the prices of the final week: at Aman, the night of Saturday 6 February costs 75% more than that of Wednesday 3. Flexible rates, 11 to 25% dearer in our price check, leave time to wait for the official programme.

Pack a period costume if you are aiming for the official dinner, and allow about 50 minutes by boat from Marco Polo airport, according to Aman Venice. To choose where to stay outside carnival time, see our selection of the best hotels in Venice.
