The Revery resort opens in Crete: canvas pavilions, cliffside suites and ROÉE spa

Some hotels set up on famous beaches, while others hide just next door. The Revery has chosen the second option. The address opened on 9 September 2026 in a private cove in the far south-west of Crete, within easy reach of Elafonisi and its pink sands, yet away from the crowds that flock there every summer.

The property joins the Leading Hotels of the World straight away, bringing with it a rare concept in Greece: canvas pavilions measuring 80 to 100 square metres nestled within the greenery, which the establishment presents as the country’s first tented suites of this calibre. Around them, eleven keys are carved into the cliffside. At the heart of the resort, a 300-square-metre spa opened on the same day.

A private cove next to Elafonisi

Elafonisi is one of the classic images used to promote Crete: a turquoise lagoon and pink sands visited by coachloads of tourists every July. The Revery has positioned itself next to it, not on top of it · within its own 4.5-hectare private cove on the south-west coast of the Chania regional unit, facing the Libyan Sea.

This difference is far from cosmetic. It shapes the view from your terrace at seven in the morning and what you hear in the evening. It is also what allows the property to set up canvas pavilions just steps from the shore without erecting any beachfront buildings.

Twelve canvas pavilions nestled in the greenery

This section is named The Revery Wild and comprises twelve eco-designed pavilions inspired by safari tents. Two layouts are available: the Seafront, spanning 100 m² (including 50 m² of covered space) for two to three guests, and the Cliffside, covering 80 m² (including 40 m² of covered space) for two guests. Each pavilion features its own hydrotherapy pool.

The concept is far from upgraded camping: canvas is used to place a bedroom within a protected landscape without pouring concrete, allowing it to be removed if necessary. This is as much an architectural strategy as an aesthetic choice.

Carved into the cliffside, eleven keys and a villa

On the opposite side of the cove, The Revery Suites are carved directly into the rock. Eleven keys are located here, ranging from 95 m² Horizon suites to 150 m² Signature suites, up to a 265 m² villa accommodating six guests. All feature a private heated pool and unobstructed views of the Libyan Sea.

The difference in surface area between the indoor space and the total footprint · 53 m² of interior space for a 95 m² Horizon suite · clearly defines the design philosophy: here, the main living area is outside.

ROÉE, 300 m² and a sauna overlooking the sea

The spa is not merely an added amenity; it is the core selling point of the opening. Spanning 300 square metres, ROÉE features four treatment rooms, a sauna with an entire glass wall facing the sea, a hammam, a hot bath, a cold plunge, an experience shower, a fully equipped gym and outdoor yoga terraces.

The name derives from the Greek word ροή, meaning flow · representing the movement of energy, breath and time. The treatment menu draws on the island’s wild plants, oils and salt, in partnership with two Greek cosmetic houses, Ariadne Athens and Naxos Apothecary.

Who designed The Revery

The architecture is led by Eirini Apostolaki from Cretan studio Archtify, while the interiors are by Athenian designer Sophia Vantaraki from studio ThingK. Two Greek creative signatures, which is rare for this segment where high-end Mediterranean openings usually rely on international firms.

The result can be summed up in a single line: contemporary Cretan minimalism, dry stone, wood, ecru canvas and volumes that follow the natural topography rather than flattening it. Catering is entrusted to Fílema, the property’s signature dining venue.
