Longevity tourism: seven European addresses where the hotel becomes a clinic

In brief
  • ⏱️ Duration · Stays of 7 to 14 days, rarely less
  • 🌍 Where · Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Spain
  • 🔬 Method · Biological and genetic assessment upon entry, followed by a personalised programme
  • 🏨 What changes · The medical team takes precedence over hotel service, which becomes the setting

The spa used to sell a brief escape. Longevity sells a measurable result: biological age, blood markers, cardiorespiratory capacity. Across Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Spain, seven properties have shifted wellness hospitality over to the medical side.

From spa to clinic: what has really changed

Hotel wellness used to sell a break: massage, hammam, silence. Longevity sells a measurement and a trajectory, which requires a technical platform, salaried physicians and a protocol that begins with an assessment and ends with a follow-up assessment.

Publicité

The consequence is structural. A longevity establishment does not fill up for a weekend: it operates on stays of seven to fourteen days, with a high return rate and low seasonality. This economic model, just as much as the trend itself, explains the interest of hotel investors.

Lake Geneva and the Alps from Clarens, where Clinique La Prairie has been located since 1931
Lake Geneva from Clarens. Clinique La Prairie has been established here since 1931, long before the word longevity existed in hospitality.

The properties focusing on cellular biology

Clinique La Prairie · Clarens, Switzerland

Situated on the shores of Lake Geneva since 1931, it is the pioneer of the genre. Its revitalisation programme is based on immunological research, and every protocol begins with genetic testing that determines the nutritional and medical support.

SHA Wellness Clinic · Albir, Spain

Overlooking the bay of Altea, SHA combines a strict macrobiotic diet, inherited from Eastern therapies, with Western preventive medicine tools: regenerative medicine, brain stimulation, cardiometabolic monitoring. The group opened a second address in Mexico in 2024.

Genetic analysis initiates most of these programmes: it is used for personalization and to measure the starting point.

The temples of detoxification and gut health

Chenot Palace Weggis · Switzerland

On the shores of Lake Lucerne, the property applies the method developed by Henri Chenot: biomarker analysis, hydro-aromatic treatments, targeted hypocaloric nutrition, within a purposely minimalist architecture.

MAYRLIFE Altaussee · Austria

The resort modernises the cure of Dr. Franz Xaver Mayr, centered on the regeneration of the digestive system, while adding hypoxia training and individualized diagnostics.

Lanserhof Sylt · Germany

Opened in 2022 on the island of Sylt, the property owes as much to its architecture as to its medicine: the building was designed by Christoph Ingenhoven, and its thatched roof covers one of the largest timber structures of its kind in Europe. The LANS Med concept combines academic medicine with natural therapies, featuring cardiological assessments, cryotherapy and therapeutic fasting.

Thermal spa properties turned medical

Grand Resort Bad Ragaz · Switzerland

The resort harnesses the thermal water from the Tamina Gorge and houses a medical centre where numerous specialists practise. A rare feature in this segment: cardiovascular assessments coexist here with Michelin-starred dining, tailored to the nutritional needs of each guest.

Waldhotel Bürgenstock · Switzerland

Overlooking Lake Lucerne, the Waldhotel Health & Medical Excellence was designed by Matteo Thun. The wooden building serves the programme just as much as the reverse: forest bathing, metabolic health, weight management.

Our perspective

The shift from thermalism to longevity medicine is not merely a change in vocabulary. It requires a technical platform, salaried medical teams and a level of responsibility that no longer belongs to a hotellerie professional. This is the first segment where the hotel is no longer the product, but the framework.

Publicité

A question remains that the sector quickly glosses over: these programmes are sold on a health promise, and the boundary between documented preventive medicine and comfort services is not always clear from the brochure. The right benchmark remains the same as elsewhere in medicine: the qualifications of the team signing off on the protocol.
