Hyatt’s lifestyle brand is crossing the Channel. Hyatt Hotels Corporation has signed a franchise agreement, via a subsidiary, with an affiliate of CL Capital for the Oxford Witney Hotel, an Oxfordshire property currently undergoing a major transformation. Rebranded under the JdV by Hyatt banner by the end of 2026, it will become the first British address for a collection that champions “joie de vivre” as its ethos: independent hotels with distinct character, rooted in their neighbourhoods, rather than a cookie-cutter template reproduced from city to city.

Witney, 25 kilometres from Oxford and on the doorstep of the Cotswolds
The choice of location is far from accidental. Witney is a market town in Oxfordshire, some fifteen miles west of Oxford on the route to the Cotswolds, the region of rolling hills and golden stone villages most visited in the south of England. The hotel is a short walk from the historic centre, making it a natural base both for visitors to Oxford and Blenheim Palace and for weekend breaks in the Cotswolds. Business clientele has not been overlooked either: Oxfordshire’s science and automotive hubs, alongside the university, generate steady weekday demand.
130 rooms, a locally sourced restaurant and 112 sqm of function rooms
Following its refurbishment, the Oxford Witney Hotel will feature 130 rooms and suites, a restaurant and bar whose menus will rely on regional suppliers, as well as 1,205 square feet (approximately 112 sqm) of flexible meeting and event space accommodating up to 90 guests. The existing property already boasts a health club with an indoor swimming pool, sauna and steam room·amenities that are rare for hotels of this size in a rural setting.
The visual identity draws on the narrative of the location. Witney made the fortune of its weavers through the wool blankets that have carried its name since the 17th century, and Oxfordshire is one of the cradles of the Arts and Crafts movement, born in the latter half of the 19th century around William Morris, whose home at Kelmscott lies some twenty kilometres away. The interiors will draw upon both of these legacies: textiles, crafted wood, artisanal patterns and a country club atmosphere rather than a chain hotel feel.

CL Capital, InnPractice and Hyatt: three players for one hotel
The structure illustrates how Hyatt is now growing across Europe: without owning the real estate. The owner, an affiliate of CL Capital, is financing the transformation; day-to-day operations are entrusted to InnPractice, an operator launched in 2025 that manages its hotels with its own performance-tracking platform, InnSights; Hyatt brings the brand, its World of Hyatt loyalty programme and its global distribution. Anna Corkill, Vice President of Development at Hyatt, presented this signing as a strategic milestone in the group’s UK expansion.
Hyatt accelerates in the United Kingdom
The American group has announced its intention to increase its UK portfolio by 30% over the 2025-2026 period. The Hyatt Regency London Olympia, opened on 26 May 2026 next to the West London exhibition centre, is the most visible manifestation of this. JdV by Hyatt complements this rollout at the upper end of the lifestyle segment, where British and international travellers seek distinctive, human-scale addresses with genuine local roots. Following Witney, further conversions of independent hotels to the brand are expected, with the franchise model being particularly well suited to owners wishing to retain their operator.
Our perspective
A 130-room hotel in an Oxfordshire market town is hardly a blockbuster splash. That is precisely what makes it interesting. JdV by Hyatt has chosen to launch in the UK via the countryside rather than London, placing its bet on the Cotswolds, one of the country’s most robust leisure markets, and on a local narrative·wool and the Arts and Crafts movement·that few chains know how to tell. It remains to be seen whether the renovation will deliver on its promise: the opening photos in late 2026 will reveal whether Witney has gained a hotel with character or simply a new sign above the door.
