382 keys and 274 metres of beach

The resort occupies 900 feet of beachfront, or roughly 274 metres, ten minutes from Owen Roberts International Airport. Entry-level rooms start at 468 square feet, approximately 43 square metres, and all feature a furnished balcony, ranging from the classic king to oceanfront categories. The Grand Club Lounge is reserved for suites and the brand’s most loyal program members.

The spa spans 9,000 square feet, approximately 836 square metres, featuring fourteen treatment rooms, an herbal steam room, an outdoor vitality pool and chromotherapy. Six dining venues have been announced, including the signature restaurant Brasa, focusing on wood-fired cooking and seafood.

The real gamble: 4,400 square metres of meeting space

This is the line from the press kit that nobody is picking up on, yet it is the most interesting. The resort announces over 47,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, roughly 4,400 square metres, featuring one of the largest ballrooms in the archipelago.

Publicité

Relative to 382 keys, this ratio is not that of a beach resort: it is that of a conference hotel. Yet the Cayman Islands have never had facilities of this scale. The archipelago thrives on leisure tourism and the financial sector, two clienteles that do not fill rooms during the same weeks. A hotel capable of hosting a global seminar in September is a tool for seasonality extension, not merely a brochure selling point. Grand Cayman is not just buying itself another beach; it is acquiring a capacity it previously lacked.

$1,767 a night, and Category 8 entry

For the opening night of 28 November, an ocean-view king room with a balcony is priced at $1,767 on a prepaid member rate, compared with $1,801 at the public rate excluding taxes. The oceanfront category is listed at $1,776 and $1,810. To these amounts must be added an $85 resort fee per night and per room, a common practice in the Caribbean that must be factored into the calculation.

Furthermore, the hotel enters directly into Category 8 of the World of Hyatt program, the brand’s highest tier. This is as much a pricing detail as it is a positioning statement: Category 8 places the property on par with the group’s most expensive addresses from its very first day of operation.

What this changes for Grand Cayman

The island has been accumulating high-end announcements for three years, spanning both hotels and branded residences. Mandarin Oriental is preparing Ocean House Residences there for 2028, and smaller addresses are opening in George Town. The difference in scale is nevertheless striking: 382 keys at once represents roughly one-fifth of the island’s high-end supply.

Hyatt, for its part, is consolidating a Caribbean footprint built on very different formats, from the Punta Cana all-inclusive to the urban resort. Grand Cayman gives it a prestigious flagship address in the region.

Our perspective

Opening 382 keys at $1,800 a night on an island of 70,000 residents is a calculated gamble. The occupancy rate required to sustain these tariffs assumes a level of demand that Grand Cayman has never had to generate in volume, and the opening night is obviously not representative of an annual rate card.

Publicité

What makes the venture solid is the meeting infrastructure. A beach resort lives through three seasons; a beach resort equipped with the archipelago’s largest ballroom lives through four. It is this shift, more than the metres of sand, that justifies eight years of construction. Our selection of the twenty most stunning beachfront hotels in the Caribbean will need to take this into account next year.
