Esprit de France is taking a different approach: rather than adding another tour to an already crowded monument, the family-owned collection has launched three itineraries that allow travellers to sleep within historic walls before exploring beyond them.
Normandy, around Paris, and Provence: three two-night journeys, built around estates managed or represented by the group, designed to connect a château to a garden, an anecdote to a workshop, or an artwork to a landscape. Rates range from €787 to €1,124 for two people, accommodation only.

The collection champions a philosophy summed up in four words: “living heritage”. Their conviction rests on a single premise: heritage is not limited to monuments we merely contemplate. In Normandy, where the landscape becomes a garden
The first itinerary unfolds around the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and the bocage valleys, guided by a simple concept: observing the myriad ways in which a landscape ultimately becomes a garden. From the bay shaped by the tides to the grounds of Château de Boucéel, and on to the structured botanical designs of La Ballue.
The journey draws to a close at Château du Gué aux Biches, within the intimacy of an estate lived in and shared by its owners. It is the stopover that gives meaning to the rest: after the manicured gardens, a home that is truly lived in.

Around Paris, history from behind the scenes
The second itinerary stems from a simple observation: the history of France was not written solely in grand palaces. It can also be read in the coat of arms defaced during the French Revolution to save Château de Bonnemare, in the precise movements of a horseman, in a queen’s private collection, or in the workshops tasked with crafting the sovereign’s image.
From the Renaissance to the Second Empire, the itinerary opens the doors to more confidential locations and arranges meetings with experts who reveal the secrets behind mainstream history. This is the most accessible of the three: starting from €787 for two people, accommodation only, based on the same booking conditions.
Cézanne, Van Gogh, and the light of the Sorgue
The third journey traces how painters’ perspectives evolved, from the reflections on the Sorgue to the landscapes of Saint-Rémy, and finally to the Montagne Sainte-Victoire. The journey begins with light and water, on the doorstep of La Maison sur la Sorgue in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.
It continues through the Alpilles, where Van Gogh infused colour with newfound power, before reaching Aix-en-Provence, where Cézanne constructed landscapes through form and volume. Sometimes this is experienced from the gardens of Le Pigonnet, the collection’s hotel in Aix. Rates start from €940 for two people.
Why heritage is being packaged into experiential stays
The initiative responds to a deep-seated trend cited by the group: according to the Hilton 2025 Trends Report, 76% of travellers seek accommodation offering a variety of experiences throughout their stay. In other words, a room is no longer enough to justify the price tag, and hoteliers who fail to curate experiences leave that value on the table for others to capture.
To this end, Esprit de France boasts an asset that few brands possess: thirteen wholly owned boutique hotels, including eleven in the heart of Paris, Le Pigonnet in Aix-en-Provence, and Hôtel du Louvre-Lens · plus a network of around thirty partner châteaux and estates, the Club Esprit de France. The collection belongs to Compagnie Lebon, a family-run business with Norman roots, controlled by the same family for eight generations.
The success of this gamble lies in what it shifts. A customisable itinerary cannot be easily compared to a competitor’s offering in the way a simple room rate can, and it incorporates stops that generate no direct revenue for the hotelier. It is an investment in recommendation, not a promotional offer. Whether travellers will be willing to pay for two nights in a château for an itinerary they could have assembled themselves remains the real question raised by this venture.
