The Argentino Hotel in Piriápolis, Uruguay, turns into a Syrian town for Menem season 2 on Prime Video

For season 2 of Menem, due in 2027 on Prime Video, the film crew set up in Piriápolis, a seaside resort town in Uruguay. According to the local press, the seafront and the esplanade of the Argentino Hotel, a grand hotel opened in 1930, were turned into a Syrian town, the country Carlos Menem’s parents came from.

A Syrian town on the seafront

The local press reported it on 22 October: the production recreated a Syrian town on the rambla, the seafront promenade of Piriápolis, and on the Argentino Hotel’s outdoor esplanade. The choice nods to the Menem family’s roots, as Carlos Menem’s parents came from Syria. Vintage cars, actors and extras in period costume: around 200 people took part in the takes, and traffic was closed along roughly four and a half blocks. Neither Prime Video nor the hotel has confirmed these outdoor scenes, and no precise date has been given.

Menem season 2: the second term, 1995-1999

On 13 October 2026, Prime Video announced with a teaser that filming had begun on the new season of Menem, due in 2027 in more than 240 countries. Picking up after the 1995 re-election, it will follow Carlos Menem’s second term, from 1995 to 1999. Leonardo Sbaraglia returns as the former Argentine president, once again directed by Ariel Winograd.

A 1930 grand hotel dreamt up by Francisco Piria

Francisco Piria, the founder of Piriápolis, wanted this grand hotel facing the Río de la Plata. The foundation stone was laid in 1920 by Uruguayan president Baltasar Brum, and the hotel opened on 24 December 1930, to plans by the French architect Pierre Guichot. In 1942 the Uruguayan state bought it at auction from the Piria estate: it still owns it, and the Méndez Requena family has run it under a concession for three generations.

The casino, first housed in the Salón Dorado, moved into the former main dining room in 1960, and the Salón Magdalena was built at the same time. Period parquet and high ceilings still grace some of the rooms.

Three pools filled with heated seawater

Three heated seawater pools follow the principle of thalassotherapy: an outdoor pool with three depth levels and a slide, an indoor one open all year round and a thermal pool reserved for over-18s. A day pass gives access from 9am to 9pm. On the first floor, the Ahara Spa offers Ayurvedic and holistic massages every day from 10am to 8pm, open to non-residents too.

Open to the public from 8am to 11pm, the Salón Acuario serves a buffet brunch on Sundays and hosts live music on Friday evenings; the Salón Magdalena is reserved for half-board guests. The Bar Fontana and the casino complete the picture.

How much is a night? 99 dollars in November

On the official booking engine, checked on 23 October 2026, the Doble Superior room costs 99 dollars a night for two, with breakfast and free cancellation, for the night of 20 to 21 November 2026. Allow 151 dollars on half board and 159 dollars for a Deluxe sea-view room. The 300 rooms range from the Senior to the Family Suite.
