The former Italian Communist Party headquarters

The building housed the national headquarters of the Italian Communist Party, and Hyatt presents Via delle Botteghe Oscure as a landmark of Italy’s post-war political history. Built in the mid-20th century, it is now a hotel owned and operated by AG Group and Rossfin Group, affiliated with Hyatt under a franchise agreement. Announced in 2023 for mid-2024, the project was expected in the fourth quarter of 2026 under Hyatt’s Italian plan.

A golden star by Giò Pomodoro

The entrance lobby, designed by the sculptor Giò Pomodoro, retains a five-pointed golden star inlaid in the floor. During the works, a sculpted wall and an inlaid floor by the artist, hidden for decades, were rediscovered and brought back into view, as was the original grand marble staircase. Amar Lalvani, Hyatt’s creative director, says he conceived the hotel “starting from the city itself”.

Nearly a third of the inventory is made up of suites: 19 suites out of 69 keys, from Junior Suites to suites with a patio or terrace. The Thompson Suite reaches 104 m² and opens onto an 80 m² private terrace. Several rooms have a balcony over Via delle Botteghe Oscure, some look out over the rooftops and monuments of Rome, others open onto a private patio facing historic buildings.

Scuola Romana artists on the walls

The collection brings together painters from the Scuola Romana and the Scuola di Piazza del Popolo, two 20th-century Roman art movements, alongside contemporary artists such as Francesco Del Drago, Giangaetano Patanè and Guido Strazza, hung in the public spaces as well as in the rooms. A rotating artist-in-residence programme will host exhibitions and talks.

At LYVE Restaurant, his contemporary Mediterranean cooking puts the sea centre stage: bouillabaisse, rockfish broths, rouille.

Year-round, the hotel will offer cooking classes and guided tastings, as well as “Empire of Light”, a photography experience from the seventh floor. The address puts the Roman Forum, the Pantheon and the Colosseum within walking distance, with the Crypta Balbi right next door.
