Indian Hotels Company Limited, Taj’s parent company, opened the Taj Tadoba Resort & Spa, Nagpur in late August, on the edge of the Tadoba-Andhari tiger reserve in eastern Maharashtra. 35 private villas across seven hectares, a restaurant, a bar and the in-house spa: it’s the brand’s first property at the entrance to this park, one of India’s safest for observing the Bengal tiger.
Tadoba, Maharashtra’s Tiger Park
Established in 1955, Tadoba is the state’s oldest national park and, along with the Andhari reserve, its largest protected area. Its teak and bamboo forest is home to one of the country’s densest tiger populations, making it a park where sightings are frequent, even in the hot season. Until now, high-end accommodation remained rare there, far from the standards of reserves in Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan.

35 villas, a swimming pool and two dining options
The villas, with thatched roofs and set in gardens, each open onto a private space facing the vegetation. The day revolves around Machan, the all-day dining restaurant, which blends local cuisine with an international menu, and the Panorama Bar, overlooking the forest. The J Wellness Circle spa, swimming pool and gym complete the facilities, along with rooms for meetings and receptions.
Safari organised from the hotel
The resort is located near the reserve’s access gates and offers guided excursions. « India’s landscapes and biodiversity are increasingly shaping how travellers experience the country », summarises Gaurav Pokhariyal, Director of Operations for full-service hotels at IHCL. The hotel’s General Manager, Trupen Patel, promises « an immersion in the region’s wild nature », without compromising the brand’s standards.
Taj’s nature strategy
IHCL is increasing its openings outside major cities, on the coasts, in the hills and near parks. Tadoba gives it a foothold in central India, three hours’ drive from Nagpur, halfway between its Mumbai properties and those in the East. For European travellers, it’s an alternative to classic Ranthambore-Bandhavgarh tours, with a hotel that finally bears a well-known name.
