Thompson Sevilla hotel opens 101 rooms in the former La Gavidia police headquarters

Opened on 29 September 2026 on Plaza de la Concordia, Thompson Sevilla features 101 rooms and suites in La Gavidia, Seville’s former police headquarters, which had remained vacant since 2003. This is the first Thompson hotel in Andalusia, and the second in Spain after Madrid, featuring a rooftop pool and the Casa Mayo restaurant.

Why La Gavidia was vacant since 2003

Designed by Ramón Montserrat Ballesté, a prominent figure in Seville’s modernist movement, the building housed the Jefatura Superior de Policía from 1964 to 2003. The police departed in 2003 for new premises, and the building remained closed for over twenty years. Protected, it retained its structure. It was also declared a place of democratic memory in 2017: under the Franco regime, its dungeons were used for repression. They remain accessible to the public via an entrance independent of the hotel.

A rooftop pool and bar

The roof brings together a pool, a bar and the gym, offering views over the rooftops of Seville. The conversion was designed by architects Carlos Llansó (Exacorp One) and Mario Ronquillo (Estudio 2RDIP), with interiors by Jorge Lozano (Proyecto Singular). The visuals published prior to the opening are mostly renderings; photos of the completed hotel are yet to come.

Casa Mayo, dining by the Manolo Mayo group

The Casa Mayo restaurant is entrusted to the Manolo Mayo group, which has over sixty years of experience in Seville and is relocating its Mayo Sevilla restaurant here; Pablo Baruc designed the decor. On the ground floor, the lobby bar opens onto an interior patio, and 240 m² of reception spaces are divided among four modular rooms.

101 rooms, from 28 to 102 m²

The 101 rooms and suites are divided into sixteen categories, from the King Bed City View or the Twin (28 to 30 m²) to the Junior Suites (35 to 45 m²) and up to the Thompson Suite with terrace and the Family Suite (98 to 102 m²). The opening rate starts at €236 per night in a Twin room for World of Hyatt members, €240 for the public rate, checked on 4 October 2026 for the night of 10 November.
