Das Stue hotel in Berlin, a former Danish embassy, to become a Sofitel in 2027

The SO/ Berlin Das Stue hotel, housed in the former Royal Danish Embassy, will become the Sofitel Berlin Das Stue in the first quarter of 2027. Accor announced this on 23 September 2026. The 78-room and suite address, on the edge of the Tiergarten and directly adjacent to the zoo, remains open: it is changing brand and renovating its rooms, corridors and lobby.

A former Danish embassy

The neoclassical building was commissioned in the late 1930s as the Royal Danish Embassy and completed during the Second World War, based on plans by Emil Schaudt, the architect of the KaDeWe department store. After several owners, it was converted into a hotel starting in 2009 and has been welcoming guests since 2012.

The conversion, by Axthelm Rolvien Architekten with Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola, preserved the original parquet floors, French windows and staircases. The name Das Stue, “the living room” in Danish, recalls the house’s diplomatic past, and the lobby is guarded by a crocodile skeleton that has become the hotel’s signature.

What the transition to Sofitel changes

Accor announces the renovation of the rooms, new bedding and textiles, refreshed public areas, new signage, renovated corridors and a redesigned lobby with new artistic and decorative elements. The house’s Danish identity is preserved. No change of ownership or operator has been announced.

For Sofitel, it is a return to Berlin: the former Sofitel Gendarmenmarkt rebranded in 2021 and the Sofitel Kurfürstendamm in 2020. Accor has nearly 300 hotels and over 43,000 rooms in Germany, with around thirty projects in the pipeline.

Zoo-view suites and a Tiergarten spa

The 78 rooms and suites range from the Stue room to the Penthouse Suite, which overlooks the City West, the Memorial Church, the Tiergarten and the zoo. The 110 m² Bel Etage suite features an 80 m² terrace with views of the zoo enclosures. In the basement, the 260 m² spa includes a 14-metre pool, a Finnish sauna, a gym and three treatment rooms.

On the dining side, the CARTE BLANCHE French brasserie serves breakfast and, from Monday to Friday, a business lunch from 12 pm to 3 pm, under a ceiling of copper pans. The Stue Bar extends the evening on its terrace.
