Ultra luxury hotel brands: the world’s 12 most exclusive, by rarity (Cheval Blanc, Aman, Orient Express)

Which are the most exclusive hotel brands in the world? The ones that open the fewest addresses and charge the most for them. We ranked twelve ultra luxury hotel brands by the number of hotels they publish, then checked on each official website the price of the same night, 14 to 15 January 2027, at one flagship hotel per brand.

In brief
  • 🥇 The rarest · Orient Express, with 2 hotels, in Rome and Venice, ahead of Cheval Blanc (6 Maisons) and Bvlgari (9 hotels).
  • 📏 Our criterion · the number of hotels published by each brand; in a tie, the higher entry price comes first.
  • 💶 The prices · from €1,167.50 at Orient Express La Minerva, in Rome, to €2,977 at One&Only Reethi Rah, in the Maldives, for the night of 14 to 15 January 2027.
  • 🗼 Paris · 8 of the 12 flagship hotels checked are there: from €1,221.86 at Le Royal Monceau Raffles to €2,400 at Four Seasons George V.
  • 🏢 The owners · Accor, LVMH, Marriott and IHG, but also Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels and Kerzner.

Our method: rarity first, then price

No outside ranking here: this list is our own, built on two criteria anyone can check. First, rarity, meaning the number of open hotels published by the brand or its group (2026 figures, dated in the table). Then the entry price: on 30 October 2026, we asked each brand’s official booking engine for the night of Thursday 14 to Friday 15 January 2027, for two adults, and noted the cheapest room shown.

These prices should be compared with care: some engines show taxes, others do not, and several rates are prepaid. We say so brand by brand. To place these twelve names within the wider industry, see our pyramid of hotel brands.

Orient Express and Cheval Blanc, the rarest

Orient Express has only two hotels, according to Accor as of 30 June 2026: La Minerva in Rome and Venezia in Venice, plus a train and the sailing yacht Orient Express Corinthian, with 54 suites. The brand was born in 1883 with the Paris to Constantinople train. In Rome, La Minerva occupies a 17th-century palazzo near the Pantheon: its 25 m² Classic Room costs €1,167.50 for the night of 14 January, breakfast, taxes and fees included.

Cheval Blanc, the LVMH hotel brand, lists six Maisons on its booking engine: Courchevel, Paris, Saint-Tropez, Saint-Barthélemy, Randheli in the Maldives and the Seychelles. It champions the French art of living and “a deliberately intimate number of keys”. In Paris, the 45 m² Deluxe Room starts at €2,050 before tax, breakfast included; in Randheli, entry is €5,370.53. The seventh Maison, the Pitrizza in Sardinia, is due in May 2027.

Bvlgari, Peninsula, Oetker: 12 hotels at most

Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts, the Italian jeweller’s hotels and a Marriott brand, counts 9 addresses and 807 rooms as of 30 June 2026, an average of 90 rooms each. At the Bvlgari Hotel Paris, on avenue George V, the Executive Room is listed at €2,100 before tax.

The Peninsula, founded in 1928 and owned by The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, settles only in twelve major cities. Its Paris Deluxe Room, 35 to 40 m², costs €2,210 at the prepaid non-refundable rate. Equal in size, Oetker Hotels brings together twelve “masterpieces”, from Baden-Baden to Palm Beach: at Le Bristol Paris, the 40 m² Executive Room costs €2,168, VAT and breakfast included, with the autumn-winter offer.

13 to 28 hotels: One&Only, Raffles, Six Senses

One&Only, part of the Kerzner group, lines up 13 open resorts, from Montana to Rwanda, and aims to “redefine ultra luxury”. It is the most expensive night in our survey: €2,977 before tax for a 149 m² overwater villa at One&Only Reethi Rah, in the Maldives, a rate converted into euros by the booking engine.

Raffles, founded in 1887 and now part of Accor, has 25 hotels and 3,905 rooms: at Le Royal Monceau Raffles, in Paris, the 36 m² Artist Room costs €1,221.86, taxes included. Six Senses, within IHG, puts wellbeing and sustainability at the heart of its 28 hotels; in Rome, its 34 m² Deluxe costs €1,368 with breakfast and free cancellation.

Why Aman only comes ninth

Aman has 36 hotels and resorts in 21 countries, more than the eight brands before it: that is what puts it ninth on our rarity criterion. Its name comes from Sanskrit and means “peace”; it all began with Amanpuri, in Phuket, in 1988. On price, it stays right at the top: €2,523, taxes included, for a 67 m² suite at Aman New York, on Fifth Avenue. It is also preparing Amanolu, its first resort in the Maldives.

Next come Rosewood, 42 destinations, owned by Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and devoted to “A Sense of Place”: €1,743 before tax at the Hôtel de Crillon, on a prepaid rate. Mandarin Oriental runs 47 hotels in 30 countries and territories: €1,445 before tax in Paris, on an advance rate. Four Seasons, founded in Toronto in 1961, is the largest with 135 hotels and resorts in 47 countries, yet its George V shows €2,400 a night.

Paris: €1,222 to 2,400 a night

Eight of our flagship hotels are in Paris, which allows an almost like-for-like comparison for the same January night. The Four Seasons George V is the most expensive (€2,400), ahead of The Peninsula (€2,210), Le Bristol (€2,168), Bvlgari (€2,100) and Cheval Blanc (€2,050). The Crillon (€1,743), the Mandarin Oriental (€1,445) and Le Royal Monceau Raffles (€1,221.86) bring up the rear.

These rates change every day and only measure the entry level: the most expensive suite at La Minerva, in Rome, exceeds €23,000 a night.
