Deer Valley is changing scale, and Hilton is the first to move in. Canopy by Hilton Deer Valley opened its doors in September 2026 in Deer Valley East Village, the new base for the Park City resort in Utah, offering 180 rooms at the foot of the Jordanelle Express gondola. This is the lifestyle brand’s first ski hotel and its first property in the state, located 40 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport.

The first hotel in East Village, the new gateway to Deer Valley

Deer Valley is one of Park City’s three resorts, and the most exclusive: skiers only, pristine grooming and luxury hotels at the base of the slopes. The East Village sector, on the slope overlooking the Jordanelle Reservoir, is ultimately slated to double the ski area and create a new base village complete with hotels, residences and shops. Canopy is its first hotel to open. The Jordanelle Express gondola, just steps from the door, provides direct access to the new slopes, and the hotel features a ski lounge with heated storage for true ski-in, ski-out convenience.

180 rooms inspired by Park City’s mining past

Developed by Extell Development Company, the building combines local stone and thermally modified wood to blend seamlessly into the slope. Inside, DLR Group and BraytonHughes drew inspiration from the history of Park City, a former mining town turned international resort, featuring exposed timber frames, beams and bespoke furniture. The 180 rooms and suites overlook the Deer Valley ski area or the Jordanelle Reservoir, and the communal areas are centred around large fireplaces, like a reimagined mountain chalet. A swimming pool, hot tub, steam room, sauna, fitness centre and golf simulator complete the amenities, alongside meeting rooms and a 176-space underground car park.

Four dining venues created by Scott Rackliff, formerly of Eleven Madison Park

The hotel relies on its culinary offerings to attract locals and visiting skiers alike. Executive chef Scott Rackliff, trained at Eleven Madison Park in New York and subsequently within Daniel Boulud’s group, has created four concepts: Tavolona, an Italian trattoria open from breakfast to dinner; Fornetto, an antipasti, cicchetti and wood-fired pizza lounge featuring local beers and cocktails; Mountain Provisions, an espresso bar and grab-and-go outlet; and Alpine Attic, a rooftop overlooking the mountains with comforting cuisine and seasonal programming. Nearly 900 sq m are dedicated to dining.

Canopy, Hilton’s lifestyle brand, arrives in a ski resort for the first time

Launched by Hilton in 2014, Canopy is the group’s lifestyle brand: mid-sized hotels featuring local design, complimentary artisanal breakfast, bicycles for guest use and a “neighbourhood guide” at reception. Deer Valley is its first ski resort hotel, and Alexandra Coleman, who heads the brand, sees this as a way to extend “the promise of a home-away-from-home hotel” to the mountains. General manager Andrew Carey promises a place “that reflects the character and energy” of this highly anticipated new destination. Opening rates start at $200 per night, a low price point for Deer Valley, where slope-side luxury hotels routinely exceed $1,000 in winter.

Our verdict

Canopy Deer Valley is not a palace hotel, nor does it aspire to be. It opens the new Deer Valley to a clientele the resort previously did not cater to: those wishing to ski one of the finest domains in the Rockies without paying the price of a luxury chalet. The gamble relies on East Village, which is still under development: until the slopes, shops and other hotels are completed, the address will stand somewhat alone on its mountainside. But being first comes with an advantage no one can take away: unobstructed views over the Jordanelle Reservoir.
