The Palace Bauer in Venice prepares to reopen under the Rosewood brand

  • The legendary Bauer in Venice begins its renaissance under the banner of luxury group Rosewood.
  • This ambitious restoration is led by architect Alberto Torsello and design firm BAR Studio.
  • The project involves a reduced key count, giving pride of place to expansive suites and a presidential suite.
  • The property will feature two restaurants, a spa, and an outdoor swimming pool on the eighth floor.

Venice is preparing to welcome back one of its most illustrious addresses. Closed for several years to undergo a restoration of unprecedented scale, the iconic property in the San Marco district is preparing to reopen under the Rosewood banner.

The heritage of a Venetian icon founded in 1880

Born at the end of the 19th century in the heart of the San Marco sestiere, this establishment enjoys a privileged position between the Grand Canal and St Mark’s Square. Inaugurated in 1880, the palace established itself as one of the essential addresses in the lagoon city. By taking over this hospitality monument, the Rosewood brand intends to showcase this centuries-old heritage whilst reimagining its guest experience.

An architectural metamorphosis orchestrated by Alberto Torsello

The comprehensive redesign project was entrusted to Venetian architect Alberto Torsello, a renowned specialist in local heritage, in collaboration with Australian firm BAR Studio. The renovation prioritises a reduction in the overall key count in order to offer significantly larger accommodations. The intervention focuses on preserving the building’s architectural memory while meeting the most exacting expectations of the contemporary traveller.

Exceptional suites and a rooftop with a pool

The hotel’s room count will feature a prominent selection of exceptional suites, including a presidential suite complete with a private terrace. The eighth floor will feature an outdoor swimming pool with a bar, as well as a wellness area overlooking the city’s rooftops. The culinary offering will revolve around a bistronomic brasserie on the ground floor and a fine-dining restaurant set on an upper floor with a panoramic terrace.

A strategic addition for the Rosewood group

This address represents a flagship addition to the Hong Kong group’s Italian portfolio. Applying the “A Sense of Place” philosophy to this Grand Canal icon strengthens the brand’s presence in Italy. In a Venetian market characterised by scarce opportunities, the reopening of this institution stands out as one of the most anticipated events on the luxury hotel scene.
