From icehouses to a five-star hotel
The building is a former 17th-century mill that once housed the Glacières de Strasbourg, where blocks of ice were produced for local merchants and brewers until 1989. Jean-Maurice Scharf then acquired the property and opened the hotel on May 1, 1992. The machinery of the icehouse, complete with beech gear wheels, remains visible within the hotel.
Rooms overlooking the Ill
The 75 rooms are divided into ten categories, featuring custom marquetry created for the hotel: Classic (26 m², overlooking Rue des Moulins), Superior (29 m², overlooking the Ill or the Covered Bridges), and Deluxe (32 m², overlooking the canals and the lock), some with a balcony. Our advice: choose a Deluxe room with a balcony to watch Petite France light up in the evening.
The suites
The Junior Suites (36 m², exposed beams, sleeps up to four) and the Signature Suite (45 m²) precede two exceptional suites: the Ministerial Suite Simone V (84 m², two bedrooms) and the Presidential Suite Louise W (89 m²), offering 180-degree views of the canals.
The terrace spa
The spa features a sauna, hammam, ice fountain, salt cave, fitness room, and most importantly, an outdoor hot tub facing the rooftops of Petite France, which is magical in winter. There is no swimming pool. Treatments are by SkinCeuticals and KOS Paris; one hour of access per person per night is included in the room rate, upon reservation, for guests aged 18 and over. Breakfast and La Table du Bar
The organic and local breakfast is served from 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM (until 11:00 AM at weekends) in the restaurant dining room, with gluten-free options available. La Table du Bar, open from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, offers a menu designed by Nicolas Stamm-Corby and Serge Schaal, the chefs of the two-star La Fourchette des Ducs, featuring cocktails and fine Alsatian wines on the terrace by the Ill.
Why 9.2 out of 10
Régent Petite France combines the finest setting in Petite France, spacious rooms, and a spa with an outdoor hot tub. We regret the absence of a swimming pool and a proper restaurant in the evening, and the street-facing Classic rooms are less appealing. Located a seven-to-eight-minute walk from Place Kléber, it features in our selection of hotels for the Strasbourg Christmas market.
