The American group is strengthening its foothold on the peninsula. Hyatt in Italy is set to grow with three addresses announced in Rome and Taormina, Sicily, for a total of 428 rooms and suites. The operation marks the arrival of two new group brands in the territory, Hyatt Regency and Thompson Hotels, while extending the Park Hyatt brand beyond Milan. Here’s what we know about these openings and the group’s Italian strategy.
Hyatt strengthens its presence in Italy with three new addresses
Two Roman openings from 2026
The Italian capital will host the first two openings in the schedule. The Hyatt Regency Rome Central is expected by the end of the third quarter of 2026, near Rome-Termini station. With 238 rooms and suites, the establishment targets business, meetings, and events clientele, a segment boosted by its central location. The rooftop will feature a swimming pool, a pool bar, and an Asian-inspired restaurant named Niroma.
The second Roman project, the Thompson Rome, is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. Housed in a rehabilitated heritage building, a short walk from the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Piazza Venezia, this 69-room hotel will focus on lifestyle. It plans three dining areas, including a restaurant on the sixth floor inspired by the Italian Riviera and a rooftop cocktail bar. This is the first Italian location for the Thompson Hotels brand.
A Park Hyatt in Taormina in 2028
Heading south for the third address. The Park Hyatt Taormina is set to open in 2028 on the southeast coast of Sicily, in one of the island’s most famous resort destinations. Designed as a luxury address, it will offer 121 suites with private terraces, overlooking the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna. The programme includes locally inspired gastronomy and a spa. The establishment will become the second Park Hyatt in Italy, alongside the Park Hyatt Milan.

Hyatt Regency and Thompson Hotels, two new brands in Italy
Beyond the number of keys, the announcement has brand significance. Hyatt Regency and Thompson Hotels are making their debut in the Italian market with, respectively, the Roman project near Termini and the lifestyle address near the Colosseum. Hyatt Regency targets business and urban stay clientele, while Thompson Hotels fits into the high-end lifestyle segment, more focused on design and experience. The simultaneous arrival of these two brands broadens the group’s range in the country, previously structured around other in-house brands.
An Italian strategy in a coveted luxury market
These three projects complement an already established network. Hyatt is present in Italy with six establishments spread across Milan, Venice, Rome, Florence, and Sardinia. The group indicates it has quadrupled its capacity in the country since 2019, signalling a progressive ramp-up in one of Europe’s most competitive tourism markets. Italy remains a prime destination for luxury hospitality, where major international brands are increasing their presence against a backdrop of a still very dense network of independent hotels.

“Italy is an important growth market for Hyatt, as it combines strong travel demand with a large base of independent hotels,” summarises Nuno Galvao Pinto, Vice President Development for the EAME region. This Italian momentum is part of a broader movement: the group announces over 40 openings planned in Europe in the coming years.
With these three addresses, Hyatt confirms its intention to move upmarket on the peninsula and to cover both urban stays in Rome and seaside resorts in Sicily. It remains to be confirmed that the schedule, spanning from late 2026 to 2028, will be met for these openings, which are still at the announcement stage.
