It usually takes years for a property to join The Leading Hotels of the World. Le Miralago Luxury Apartments in Cernobbio, however, joined just weeks after opening its doors. The explanation lies in a single name: the property belongs to Villa d’Este La Collezione, applying the codes of ultra-luxury hospitality to a residential format.

Just eight apartments on Cernobbio’s main square
Exclusivity is proudly embraced here. The property offers just eight apartments, spread over four floors, in the historic Hôtel Miralago building on Piazza Risorgimento. Located in the heart of the village, it is just a few minutes’ walk from Villa d’Este and sits directly on the waterfront.
The range extends from the one-bedroom Classic to the two-bedroom Deluxe, with unusual flexibility: units can be combined to form a three-bedroom residence, making it possible to accommodate an entire family or several couples within the same address.

What joining The Leading Hotels of the World changes
The collection brings together around 400 independent properties worldwide, and membership requires passing an inspection covering several hundred criteria. With just eight keys, Le Miralago is among the smallest members of this network, which typically features grand hotels of a hundred rooms or more.
The benefits for travellers are tangible: membership of the network grants access to the Leaders Club loyalty programme and positions the address within the booking channels of international luxury travel agencies. For an eight-apartment property, this is a major shortcut to global visibility.

Residences, the new frontier for luxury hotel brands
Villa d’Este is not building a second hotel; instead, it is translating its signature style into a different format, that of serviced apartments with kitchens. This reflects a broader trend in luxury hospitality, where guests demand the space and independence of private residences without compromising on concierge services or breakfast.
The Caffè Miralago, open to the public, also anchors the property within village life rather than isolating it. This is an interesting editorial choice: while branded residences often close themselves off to outsiders, this one does the exact opposite.

Our view
Lake Como is experiencing a decade of high excitement, with international brands moving in and historic villas reopening. Le Miralago’s bet runs counter to this trend: choosing exclusivity over scale, with just eight apartments backed by the most prestigious name on the lake.
One caveat, however, which we will verify on-site: the residential format rarely succeeds in offering the same level of service as a traditional hotel, due to smaller staff numbers. This is precisely what the connection to Villa d’Este is meant to resolve.
