The Hôtel Ivoire in Abidjan, operated by Sofitel since 2013, presented a modernisation programme on 25 September 2026, starting with its Tower. The six lifts are being replaced, the panoramic restaurant Le Toit d’Abidjan is reopening, and the former ice rink will become a convention hub named Ivoire Meeting from the second half of 2027. The hotel remains open during the works.

A Tower to be modernised, lift by lift
The most visible work is vertical. The Tower’s six lifts are being replaced in two stages: three will be delivered in the first days of October 2026, with the other three to follow by late 2027. General Manager Jean-François Rémy, who took the helm of the hotel in December 2023, also announced feasibility studies for a global modernisation of the Tower, with no timetable or budget at this stage.
No budget has been communicated for the entire programme. The hotel continues to welcome its guests: the work is progressing in phases, starting with what impacts their stay the most.
Le Toit d’Abidjan reopens at the summit
At the top of the Tower, Le Toit d’Abidjan is part of the hotel’s history: management points out that a restaurant has been receiving guests there since 1976. It reopens after a refreshment, with French cuisine that embraces Ivorian and African flavours, overlooking the Ébrié lagoon and the towers of the Plateau. La Brasserie completes the dining offer.
The Ivoire Meeting, a convention hub
Business tourism is the lifeblood of the establishment: according to its management, meetings, conventions and seminars represent 95% of its turnover, and the complex serves 500 to 2,000 meals per day. The former ice rink, a 3,700 m² modular space, will be transformed into Ivoire Meeting, a hub dedicated to conventions and seminars, from the second half of 2027.
The former bowling alley will be refurbished as a presidential lounge. The hotel already has 18 meeting rooms, the largest of which covers 1,974 m².
426 rooms facing the Ébrié lagoon
Hôtel Ivoire has 426 rooms, suites and apartments, facing the Ébrié lagoon or Cocody. The suites on the upper floors open onto large floor-to-ceiling windows, most with water views. Two swimming pools, a children’s pool, a spa, a fitness room and a cinema complete an estate designed for long business stays as well as weekend families.
A monument of modern Ivory Coast
Inaugurated in 1963 at the initiative of President Félix Houphouët-Boigny, Hôtel Ivoire was completed with its Tower in the late 1960s. Long a symbol of Abidjan’s boom, with its ice rink and bowling alley, it still belongs to the Ivorian State, represented by the Société des Palaces de Cocody. Sofitel has operated it under a management contract since 1 January 2013, following a renovation that accompanied its return to the forefront.
In August 2026, the hotel obtained the Green Key environmental certification, and it has its own wastewater treatment plant. The announced modernisation extends this fundamental work on a building that remains one of the reference addresses in West Africa.
