On Monday 13 April 2026, at around 7.05pm, the fire started in the construction area, in the ceiling of the second floor. Some 400 firefighters took turns for almost 14 hours, and the blaze was declared out at around 10am the next day. No one was hurt, and arson has been ruled out, according to the hotel.

The main building held. The historic vaults of the former cloister, the restaurants, the kitchen, the wellness area and the historic wine cellar were all saved. During the works, the old Bräukeller served as a pop-up restaurant, named PHOENIX, from early July to early November 2026. The photos in this article were taken before the works.

According to the Seyrling family, more than 30 million euros has been invested, a sum that covers the rebuilding as well as extensions already planned before the fire. The lobby and reception, four restaurants, the bar, the gym and meeting rooms, the kids’ club and the nightclub have been rebuilt or restored; the stairwells, lifts, laundry, refrigeration plant and staff areas have been partly redone. Wolfgang Rieß is leading the reconstruction.

The hotel has 90 rooms and suites across 18 categories. 11 additional rooms will be ready on reopening, and every room is moving to the new “Nature” style, according to the family. About 90% of the permanent team is returning: the hotel employed some 150 people before the fire.

The spa covered 3,500 m² before the works, with five pools, including panoramic outdoor ones, and seven themed saunas. This winter’s novelty is an adults-only spa in a separate building in the garden: a sauna house and a relaxation room, both with panoramic views, in a natural wood style. No images of this new space have been released yet.

Work will continue after December. A 50-metre natural swimming pond, linked to the new adults’ area, is planned; the garden and some finishing touches will be completed in spring 2027.

What remains of the monastery founded in 1516?

The Klosterbräu is a former Augustinian monastery founded in 1516 by Emperor Maximilian I; for some 200 years, the monks welcomed pilgrims and travellers there. After secularisation, the monastery was bought at auction in 1809 by Seefeld’s postmaster and butcher, marking the start of the Seyrling family’s hotel tradition. The family had to leave the premises until 1953, while the building served as a hospital.

Alois and Agnes Seyrling, the sixth generation, now run the hotel, where six family members work. The house holds a MICHELIN Key, the distinction the Michelin Guide awards to hotels, and beer has been brewed on site for more than 500 years; the brewery was revived after a break of more than 80 years.

Bräukeller & Grill returns on 4 December

According to the Seyrling family, the Bräukeller & Grill will reopen on 4 December 2026, with a reopening gala planned for 5 December. The hotel offers gourmet half board (breakfast and dinner included in the rate), the covered courtyard of the former cloister, known as the Klosterhof, a wine cellar, a nightclub and a mountain restaurant, the Reitherjoch Alm.

How much is a night at the Klosterbräu?
