Opened in 2008 at 29 Tanglin Road, between Orchard Road and the Botanic Gardens, the hotel is operated by Marriott International under the St. Regis brand; it is owned by companies of the Hong Leong Group. The work was carried out in stages: the St. Regis Spa and the Cantonese restaurant Yan Ting were redone in early 2024, the rooms, restaurants, bar and meeting rooms were unveiled between late 2025 and early 2026, and the presidential suite, presented on 3 September 2026, brought the transformation to a close.

The 6 October announcement gives the total cost for the first time, expressed in Singapore dollars rather than US dollars: SGD 44 million for the whole project, or roughly 29 to 30 million euros, spread across the 299 rooms and suites, the function spaces and three new dining venues.

The final phase of the project, the presidential suite spans 335 m² on the top floor of the 20-storey tower. The living room, with its baby grand piano, opens onto a private balcony; the dining room is arranged around a Palissandro marble table, and a media room is fitted with a 75-inch screen.

The master bedroom has a willow-inspired headboard and a walk-in wardrobe; the bathroom combines a double elliptical vanity, a Jacuzzi bath and mosaic tiling. On the walls hang lithographs by Sam Francis, Marc Chagall and Mark Tobey. Butler service comes with the suite, priced from 12,000 Singapore dollars a night.

What has changed in the 299 rooms?

The design is by FBEYE International, a Singapore studio led by its founder Warren Foster-Brown, who was already part of the 2008 team. It draws on the Singapore Botanic Gardens, the country’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, hence a palette of botanical green, pale blue and ivory, and floral motifs. Cecilia Kwek, wife of Kwek Leng Beng, executive chairman of the Hong Leong Group, helped choose the artworks, furniture, lighting and colour schemes.

Occupancy sensors control the air conditioning and blinds, a hot and ambient drinking-water tap replaces plastic bottles, and bathroom amenities come in large refillable dispensers. The eco-composite flooring contains up to 50% recycled materials; the televisions support casting from a phone, with a Bluetooth soundbar. ‘Sustainability is not a compromise but an enhancement of the guest experience,’ says Nick Heath, the hotel’s general manager.

Three venues were created and unveiled between late 2025 and early 2026. Sophia, the Italian restaurant led by chef de cuisine Angelo Sergio, draws on the cooking of eleven Italian regions and serves a Sunday brunch to a jazz soundtrack. The Tea Room, in the lobby, is devoted to afternoon tea with free-flow scones and an adjoining patisserie; The St. Regis Bar channels the spirit of early 20th-century Manhattan bars.

The Cantonese restaurant Yan Ting, redone in 2024, is among the ‘Selected Restaurants’ of the Michelin Guide Singapore 2026, without a star. The hotel is also home to two partner Japanese restaurants, Tentsuru and Shinji by Kanesaka.

The John Jacob Ballroom, free of pillars, has gained two LED walls measuring 9.6 m by 5.29 m and a bar built into the foyer; five meeting rooms on Level 1 have been refurbished. The hotel has ten event spaces totalling more than 1,300 m², including Caroline’s Mansion, a former indoor tennis court turned in 2019 into salons inspired by Caroline Astor’s Upper East Side residence. Organisers can use Marriott’s Connect Responsibly programme: an impact report after each event and an option to offset carbon or fund reforestation with South Pole.

Four Forbes stars for the hotel and the spa

Redone in early 2024, the St. Regis Spa brings together indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis, cedar Finnish saunas and eucalyptus steam rooms, complemented by an outdoor pool and a fitness centre. Forbes Travel Guide awards 4 stars to both the hotel and the spa, and the interiors won at the International Property Awards (Asia Pacific Hotel Awards 2026-2027), in the 5-Star Best Hotel Interior category for Singapore.
