Marriott reaches 10,000 hotels worldwide

In brief. Marriott International reached the 10,000-hotel milestone worldwide on 11 June 2026, nearly a century after its beginnings. Present in 146 countries and territories, the group celebrated this landmark by inaugurating the JW Marriott Ranthambore Resort & Spa, in India. Luxury remains a key driver of its growth, with nearly 700 high-end properties.

Few hotel groups reach such a symbolic threshold. Marriott International officially surpassed the 10,000-property mark on 11 June 2026, from its Bethesda, Maryland headquarters. A milestone that crowns nearly a hundred years of expansion and confirms the group’s dominance in global hospitality, from mid-range to ultra-luxury.

99 years after a root beer stand

Marriott’s story began in 1927 with a modest nine-seat root beer stand. Nearly a century later, the group boasts 10,000 hotels spread across 146 countries and territories. « I am incredibly proud of this achievement, made possible by our teams around the world and the owners who continue to place their trust in Marriott brands », said Anthony Capuano, the group’s CEO. A trajectory built on acquisitions, brand diversity, and the power of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programme.

The JW Marriott Ranthambore, chosen for its symbolism

To mark the occasion, the group inaugurated the JW Marriott Ranthambore Resort & Spa, in India, as its 10,000th property. The choice is no accident: the JW Marriott brand pays homage to co-founder J. Willard Marriott. Nestled at the gates of the famous Ranthambore National Park, in Rajasthan, the resort features 127 accommodations, including private villas, and focuses on an immersion between wild nature and refined hospitality, with contemporary Indian cuisine and botanical cocktails inspired by local produce.

Luxury, a driver of growth

High-end remains a strategic focus for Marriott. The group has nearly 700 luxury hotels in 74 countries, and the JW Marriott brand alone now exceeds 130 properties. From Asia to the Americas, this move upmarket targets a clientele seeking personalised experiences, meticulous design, and impeccable services, where the highest margins in the sector are made.

All-inclusive, modular, residences: a 360° expansion

Beyond luxury, Marriott is diversifying its formats. The group recently opened the St. Regis Budapest, located in the emblematic Klotild Palace, the Westin Playa Vallarta, the brand’s first all-inclusive in Mexico, the Artik Suzhou (serviced apartments in China), and a StudioRes in Greensboro, built in one year using modular construction. A strategy that covers all segments, from extended stays to ultra-luxury.

Our perspective

Reaching 10,000 hotels is more than just a statistic: it’s an affirmation of leadership that few players can dispute. By focusing on strong brands like JW Marriott and St. Regis, while also exploring all-inclusive and modular options, Marriott proves its ability to cater to all customer segments. And the choice of an Indian resort for this milestone speaks volumes about the growing importance of emerging markets in the global luxury landscape.
