The NIZUC resort in Cancún wins its first MICHELIN Key as Mexico counts 98 Key hotels in 2026

Mexico has 98 hotels with MICHELIN Keys in 2026, 12 of them newcomers, and the NIZUC resort in Cancún has won its first Key. Announced on 18 September 2026, the global selection puts three Mexican addresses at the very top, with three Keys. Here is the resort on Punta Nizuc, its villas and its rates, followed by the list of newly recognised hotels.

Punta Nizuc: 274 suites between mangrove and reef

NIZUC Resort & Spa spreads over 29 acres, or around 11.7 hectares, on Punta Nizuc, a mangrove-fringed point facing the coral reef, on Boulevard Kukulcán at kilometre 21 of Cancún’s Hotel Zone. It is home to 274 suites and private villas. Its MICHELIN Guide listing, which awards it a Key for the first time, describes two private beaches and a series of pools, some of them adults-only.

The resort is not the area’s only entry in the selection: the Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya also features with one Key, a resort whose switch to luxury all-inclusive we have covered. On its website, NIZUC now shows off its 2026 MICHELIN Key right on the home page.

Villas of up to 515 m² with a private pool

Rooms start with the Garden View King, 66 m² including the terrace. The 44 Ocean Suites, at 87 m², are reserved for adults aged 16 and over. Next come the suites with a private plunge pool, the Garden Junior Suite (120 m²) and the Penthouse (164 m²), then the Private Pool Villa (225 m²), with an infinity pool and waterfall, and the Private Pool Pavilion Villa (255 m²).

At the top, two large villas of 499 and 515 m² go by the names NIZUC Villa and Presidential Villa. A new 852 m² presidential villa is announced on the official website, bookable in 2026.

Dining Mexican, Peruvian or Mediterranean

Six restaurants share the estate: Ramona (contemporary Mexican), Indochine (Asian fusion), Ni (Peruvian), Terra Nostra (Mediterranean, with a wood-fired oven), La Punta Grill & Lounge (grilled fish and meat) and Café de la Playa, for breakfast. The kitchen brigade is led by executive chef Sylvain Desbois.

Bar A-Kan sits right by the sea, while the Havana Lounge focuses on cigars and Caribbean rums. The resort also has separate kosher kitchens, under the supervision of Rabbi Berel Simpser.

The first ESPA spa in the Mexican Caribbean

NIZUC Spa by ESPA is the first spa from the ESPA brand in the Mexican Caribbean. Its guided circuit, “Experience of the 4 Elements”, takes in nine spaces: sauna, aromatic steam room, cryotherapy pool (a very cold plunge), hydromassage Vitality Pool and a mixed outdoor pool. Add to that a Spa Villa for couples, rituals inspired by Maya traditions and a MedSpa for medical treatments. According to the official website, Forbes Travel Guide has given its 2026 Five-Star rating to both the resort and its spa.

How much does a night at NIZUC cost?

Checked on 28 October 2026 on the official booking engine, for the night of Wednesday 18 to Thursday 19 November 2026 and two adults: the Garden View Double (75 m², terrace, mangrove view, two large beds) costs USD 800 a night, or €716, before taxes and fees, on a flexible rate. The same evening, the Ocean Suite was listed at USD 1,360 and the Private Pool Villa at USD 1,920.

98 Key hotels in Mexico, three at the top

The 2026 MICHELIN Keys global selection, announced on 18 September 2026, brings together 2,832 hotels worldwide, 470 of them new across 79 destinations: 155 with three Keys, 657 with two and 2,020 with one. Michelin’s press release names only one Mexican address, Hotel Sevilla in Mérida.

Mexico lines up 98: 74 with one Key, 21 with two and three with three Keys, One&Only Mandarina in Lo de Marcos, Hotel Esencia in Playa del Carmen and Xinalani in Quimixto. In the same series, compare with Brazil’s 22 Key hotels and the nine hotels recognised in Malaysia.

Mérida, Tulum, Holbox: the 12 new hotels

Rosewood San Miguel de Allende comes straight in with two Keys. The other eleven newcomers receive one Key: Mérida and Tulum place three each, while Cancún, Holbox, Punta Mita, Ensenada and San Miguel de Allende complete the list.
