Corinthia Rome installs its spa in the former Banca d’Italia vault: 285 sqm, two pools and 111Skin

The Banca d’Italia used to keep its reserves beneath Piazza del Parlamento. Corinthia Rome has set up its 285 sqm spa there, inside the former vault of the Piacentini palace, featuring two tiled pools, a fireplace and laurel leaf mosaics. Opened in March 2026 alongside the hotel, it is unveiling its treatment menu this autumn, divided between Tuscan house Seed to Skin and London’s 111Skin.

285 sqm in the Banca d’Italia vault

The palace was built between 1913 and 1921 by Pio and Marcello Piacentini for the Banca d’Italia, opposite Montecitorio, the seat of the Chamber of Deputies. Its 9,700 sqm have become Italy’s first Corinthia, owned by the Reuben brothers since 2019, featuring 60 keys designed by GA Design and an art collection curated by VISTO. The basement has retained its vault function, now safeguarding time for oneself.

The spa was envisioned over six years by consultant Paula Perkins, before being taken over in 2025 by Kerry Turpin, the group’s spa director. Spanning 285 sqm, it features three treatment rooms including a double room, a reception boutique and a Technogym fitness room accessible day and night. The mosaic floors showcase the laurel leaf, the emblem of ancient Rome, beneath golden lighting.

Two pools and a fireplace, just like a bathhouse

The heart of the space is a vaulted room where two turquoise-tiled pools face each other, inspired by Roman thermal baths, positioned between a fireplace and four heated loungers. The thermal circuit, designed by Starpool, adds a sauna, a hammam, an ice fountain and sensory showers. The pools welcome teenagers aged 16 and over when accompanied, while treatments are available from 18 years old.

Access is not restricted to hotel guests. The spa is open daily from 8am to 8pm to Romans and travellers alike, a rarity for a hotel of this calibre, where the spa is often reserved strictly for residents.

Seed to Skin and 111Skin, Tuscany to Harley Street

Two houses share the menu. Seed to Skin, born in Borgo Santo Pietro, Tuscany, is undertaking its first collaboration with Corinthia, offering formulations derived from estate-grown organic plants processed using its ‘green molecular science’. Opposite, 111Skin, founded in London by cosmetic surgeon Dr Yannis Alexandrides, brings its clinical protocols and its NAC Y² complex, originally designed for post-operative skin healing.

“Our vision has always been for every spa to tell its own story, rooted in a place, a culture and genuine care,” explains Kerry Turpin. “Corinthia Spa Rome is a striking example of this, with a truly Italian narrative at its heart.”

Six rituals, Corinthia Time to Jet Lag Recovery

The signature treatment, Corinthia Time, follows no fixed protocol: the therapist assesses fatigue and tension, then adjusts duration, pressure and techniques in real time. The Chrysalis combines dry exfoliation, a Tuscan candle massage, an argan, shea, vanilla, rose and oud wrap, followed by a facial.

On the 111Skin side, the Reverse Signature Facial and the Black Diamond Non-Surgical Lift Facial, featuring black diamond particles, target skin laxity and facial contours. The Jet Lag Recovery combines dry brushing, self-heating mineral muds, candle massage and facial cryotherapy for long-haul arrivals. Finally, the Rose Gold Journey pairs rose quartz exfoliation with nourishing oils. Durations and prices are not published, and bookings must be made directly with the spa.

Sixty keys within the Piacentini palace

Upstairs, the hotel features 60 rooms including 21 suites, starting from around €1,300 per night. The Theodoli Heritage Suite occupies the bank’s former Council Chamber, beneath 1920 frescoes by Guglielmo Janni dedicated to the history of Italian currency. Chef Carlo Cracco oversees the Viride restaurant, led by Alessandro Buffolino; La Piazzetta occupies the courtyard garden and Ocra bar shines beneath a golden ceiling.

Our perspective

Rome has never had so many new luxury hotels, and all are searching for the distinctive detail that sets them apart. Corinthia has found its own: a spa unlike any other because it occupies an authentic central bank vault, whereas its competitors offer anonymous basements. The scale is modest, with 285 sqm and three treatment rooms, but the design and the fact that it is open to non-residents make it a true city destination rather than just a hotel amenity.

The choice of brands tells the same story. Seed to Skin, previously somewhat confidential, secures its first major capital city hotel, while 111Skin brings the clinical endorsement demanded by international clientele. It remains for them to publish the menu, durations and prices, which are not yet available on the website.
