Hotel honours in Puglia usually go to the masserie of the Valle d’Itria and the palazzi of Lecce. The Bra Hotel, ten rooms in Bari’s Murat district, enters the Michelin Key selection unveiled on 18 September 2026 for the first time, and remains the only address in the city to feature.

Ten rooms, and Bari enters the guide
The guide lists the hotel as a new entry with one Key, the first of three tiers. Of the sixteen Puglia hotels selected this year, the Bra Hotel is the only address located in the city of Bari. The others are spread between Lecce, Ostuni, Locorotondo, Otranto, the Salento and the coast at Savelletri di Fasano, where the masserie turned hotels are concentrated.
Three other houses in the region enter alongside it: the Leonardo Trulli Resort in Locorotondo, Vista Ostuni, and Masseria Torre Maizza in Savelletri di Fasano, which goes straight into the two-Key tier. No address in Puglia reaches three Keys, which Italy reserves this year for Capri, Florence, Venice, Rome, Positano, Portofino, Taormina and a handful of Tuscan and Umbrian estates.

Via Abate Gimma, three streets from the sea
The hotel occupies a building at 35 via Abate Giacinto Gimma, in the Murat district, the grid laid out in the early nineteenth century between the old town and the station. Five minutes on foot are enough to reach the Petruzzelli or Margherita theatres, ten to reach San Sabino cathedral and the basilica of San Nicola, in the heart of Bari Vecchia. Bari Centrale station is nine hundred metres away, Karol Wojtyla airport eleven kilometres.
The house was born of the Brattoli family, already established in hospitality and events, and of its founder, Cavaliere Pasquale Brattoli, who had spotted an old palazzo in central Bari on via Argiro, the street where Roman and late antique remains were uncovered. Designer Domenico De Palo signed the interiors, between black marble, brass, mirrors and panoramic wallpapers.

A 95 sq m suite with its own spa
The ten keys are divided into three categories and one signature suite. Business Rooms and Deluxe Rooms measure around 25 sq m, Superior Rooms around 30 sq m, and the Bra Hotel Spa Suite reaches 95 sq m, with a living room, a bedroom, a large whirlpool tub, a hammam and a sensory shower. The Deluxe rooms look out over Bari’s shopping streets, the Superior rooms over the same view or the inner courtyard.
The fit-out reads like a manifesto: an iPad room control, a minibar stocked to order, Diptyque bath products, soundproofed windows, and even a popcorn machine to turn the room into a cinema. The Bra Spa adds a heated, oxygenated hydromassage pool, a sauna, a steam room and a four-jet sensory circuit with chromotherapy, available privately for an hour at 65 euros.
Celebra, the lounge bar and the rooftop
Dining comes in three places. The Celebra, the main restaurant, serves beneath a ceiling of moving images that the house presents as the largest ceiling LED wall in Italy, and keeps a cellar turned towards the wines of Puglia and champagnes. Next door, the vaulted lounge bar, green velvet armchairs and crystal chandeliers, serves cocktails and afternoon tea.
On the top floor, the Bra Rooftop unfolds a terrace inspired by the four elements, with a skypool, sun loungers and tables set out over the rooftops of central Bari. Breakfast is listed at 35 euros, afternoon tea at 30 euros and the three-course business lunch at 50 euros, prices taken from the hotel’s website on 20 September 2026.
Sixteen Key-rated addresses in Puglia
The region confirms its rise. Sixteen Puglia hotels appear in the 2026 selection, three of them with two Keys: Borgo Egnazia and Masseria Torre Maizza, in Savelletri di Fasano, and La Fiermontina Palazzo Bozzi Corso, in Lecce. The other thirteen hold one Key, from Palazzo Daniele in Gagliano del Capo to Canne Bianche in Torre Canne, by way of the Patria Palace in Lecce, whose spa dug beneath the vaults we have covered.
The movement long played out in the countryside and on the coast, among trulli, fortified masserie and Adriatic pine groves. The arrival of the Bra Hotel shifts the cursor towards the city: Bari, a ferry port, a cruise call and the region’s administrative capital, gains an address able to keep a traveller one night longer.
Our view
Ten rooms in a ranking that also holds houses of two hundred keys is exactly the gap the Keys have accepted since they were created. The criterion is not size but coherence, and the Bra Hotel has one, taken a long way: black marble, brass, mirrors and drawn wallpapers, a frank stance that resembles no other recognised address in the region.
We have not yet slept on via Abate Gimma. We will go and check, against our six criteria, whether a house of ten keys can deliver the service of a grand hotel, and what the Bari skypool is worth in June.
