On 12th May 2026, the Forte Village Resort, an iconic address on Sardinia’s south coast, had its GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) certification renewed. More than just a label, this recognition validates a pioneering approach, launched in 1972, to luxury fully committed to the environment, the region, and local communities.

A 50-Hectare Estate Designed as an Ecosystem

Located 45 minutes from Cagliari, Forte Village unfurls its setting across over fifty hectares of preserved nature. Far from the standardised beachfront resort model, the establishment has, year after year, built itself into a truly sustainable ecosystem: systematic tree replanting, organic maintenance of green spaces, educational programmes for younger guests, and reforestation projects carried out with local stakeholders. Biodiversity is treated as a long-term asset here, not merely a marketing argument.

Water, Energy, Mobility: The Pillars of the Model

On this 50-hectare playground, resource management has become a discipline in its own right. From its inception, the resort equipped itself with a rainwater harvesting system capable of storing over 350,000 m³, now complemented by greywater recycling facilities and a seawater desalination project.

Regarding energy, the Sardinian sunshine is harnessed: the installed photovoltaic capacity targets 1.4 MW, which mechanically strengthens the resort’s energy independence and reduces its carbon footprint. Within the estate, internal combustion vehicles have been replaced by electric vehicles, battery-powered service cars, and bicycles. LED lighting has been widely implemented, and charging stations now equip parking areas.

Every renovation or new construction prioritises local materials · wood, granite, Orosei marble · and an architectural integration respectful of the Sardinian landscape.

Sustainability Leader at Leading Hotels of the World

Beyond the GSTC certification, which validates the resort’s environmental strategy against some of the most stringent international criteria, Forte Village is also counted among The Leading Hotels of the World’s ‘Sustainability Leaders’. This distinction is reserved for a very select circle of globally committed establishments, placing the Sardinian resort alongside international benchmarks for responsible luxury.

A Social Commitment Rooted in Sardinian Territory

Sustainability doesn’t stop at the resort’s gates. Nearly 87% of Forte Village’s staff are from Sardinia, and the establishment favours short supply chains for its restaurants by sourcing from local producers. This approach extends through solidarity initiatives, patronage actions, and public health projects, particularly in support of Sardinian medical infrastructure.

Preserving Marine Ecosystems, Today and Tomorrow

Protecting marine ecosystems, beach clean-ups, participation in international programmes for reducing marine waste: along its coastline, Forte Village multiplies initiatives to preserve the natural wealth that surrounds it. This entire approach aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, establishing the resort as one of Europe’s laboratories for a resolutely more responsible luxury tourism.
