Meliá Hotels International announced on 29 September 2026 the 2027 opening of The Meliá Collection Rome, a 67-room hotel on Via XX Settembre, a stone’s throw from Via Veneto. The Spanish group is establishing its luxury collection in a converted existing building, in a franchise agreement with the Italian company Gruppo Stay.

A converted building on Via XX Settembre
The project involves the refurbishment and change of use of an existing building, whose official rendering shows a Neo-Renaissance style façade. Meliá has not disclosed the street number, the building’s history, or the name of the designer. The hotel will feature 67 rooms, a restaurant, a bar, a rooftop bar and a wellness area, located along the avenue connecting Porta Pia to the Quirinal, lined with ministries.
Gruppo Stay at the helm
The hotel will be operated under a franchise agreement by Gruppo Stay, a company from Cortina d’Ampezzo founded and owned by Andrea Franceschi, which manages eleven properties across the Dolomites, Turin and Trentino. This is its third project with Meliá, following two “Affiliated by Meliá” hotels in the Dolomites. For Gabriel Escarrer, the group’s chairman, Rome is “a natural integration” for the collection and a key destination for its luxury growth.
Meliá’s luxury collection in Italy
The Meliá Collection brings together hotels with strong personalities under the group’s banner, currently numbering around a dozen addresses. In Italy, it already includes Tenuta di Artimino in Tuscany, and is preparing a hotel on the Gulf of Poets in Lerici. Rome becomes the third Italian address announced by the brand.
