To celebrate the complete renovation of the Mercure Paris Bastille Marais, the establishment has just reopened its doors in a completely redesigned version, blending Haussmannian charm with contemporary art de vivre. With an integrated wellness studio, a lounge adorned with fir-green woodwork, and a newly refurbished breakfast room, we stepped inside this 4-star hotel in the 11th arrondissement to provide a comprehensive review.
A Redesigned Haussmannian Hotel, Steps from the Bastille
Located at 53 rue Richard Lenoir, a hundred metres from Voltaire metro station and a ten-minute walk from Place de la Bastille, the Mercure Paris Bastille Marais offers a taste of hushed Paris, away from the tourist-saturated thoroughfares. The renovation has preserved the Haussmannian structure of the building while injecting a distinctive personality into the communal areas. Corridors lined with Toile de Jouy in shades of grey, deep green carpets, emerald green woodwork, and herringbone parquet flooring: the hotel has swapped chain uniformity for a more boutique, more Parisian identity.

Compact Yet Meticulously Designed Rooms
As for accommodation, the hotel offers five room categories, ranging from the more modest (twelve to eighteen square metres for the Classic rooms) to the twenty-seven square metre Privilege room located on the upper floors, featuring a king-size bed. The format remains resolutely Parisian, compact, but the renovation has prioritised comfort and materials over square footage. Bathrooms tiled in light tones accented with a mosaic frieze, walk-in showers, Nuxe welcome products: the entire space feels brand new, without a hint of design flaw. The address comprises around fifty rooms, some overlooking the courtyard for those seeking tranquility.

Circle Movement: The Wellness Bet
This is the true hallmark of this renovation. The Mercure Bastille Marais has entrusted its fitness area to the Parisian studio Circle Movement, which runs coached classes there based on a philosophy of “breathe, sweat, play.” Urban 4-star hotels rarely integrate a genuine movement studio rather than a simple gym. On the lower floor, a relaxation area with exposed brick walls, punctuated by tawny leather seating, extends the vibe; coworking spaces and an inner terrace complete an offering designed for travellers who combine work, sport, and leisure. Wellness even extends to the plate: homemade madeleines proudly bear the “Circle Movement” seal.

A Meticulously Prepared Breakfast in a Revamped Room
The breakfast room is among the entirely redesigned spaces, now bright and inviting. From 6:30 AM, the buffet offers baskets of fresh fruit, pastries, bread, cereals in jars, dried fruit, and homemade jams, with commendable attention paid to gluten-free options and filtered water instead of plastic bottles. The plated service, meanwhile, pays as much attention to presentation as to content, from scrambled eggs to pancakes and freshly squeezed juices. A truly delightful moment, befitting the hotel’s enhanced luxury status.

The Mercure Paris Bastille Marais has successfully transformed. Behind a discreet façade, the renovation has unveiled a true personality, combining fir-green woodwork, Toile de Jouy, and wellness spaces, without compromising the comfort expected of an urban 4-star hotel. The Circle Movement studio and coworking spaces make it a hybrid address, catering to both business and art de vivre, ideally situated to explore Bastille, the Marais, and eastern Paris. It’s an address that perfectly illustrates the expertise of its management, the HOSPYA network, to which we dedicate a separate feature.
There remains the eternal Parisian trade-off: compact rooms and a lively neighbourhood that will encourage those sensitive to noise to request a courtyard-facing room. A minor detail when considering a renovation that, in both substance and style, sets the bar high.
