The Falkensteiner Group (FMTG) accelerates in Austria with three major projects

The Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group (FMTG) is accelerating its development in Austria with three major projects that combine cutting-edge thermalism, an alpine boutique-resort, and 5-star mountain hospitality. The Austrian group, owner of the Falkensteiner brand, is thus consolidating its roots in its home territory while deploying its young Falkensteiner Residences brand.

  • The alpine boutique-resort: the Triforêt alpin.resort in Hinterstoder, taken over under a management contract, becomes the first resort under the Falkensteiner Residences brand (41 apartments, 20 chalets)
  • The 5-star mountain hotel: the Falkensteiner Hotel Saalbach-Hinterglemm, with 127 rooms and over 2,000 m² of spa, expected in late 2026 at the foot of the Reiterkogelbahn
  • The thermal resort: FMTG takes over the operation of Thermenresort Loipersdorf, Austria’s largest thermal resort, along with the Das Sonnreich hotel

Triforêt in Hinterstoder, the first Falkensteiner Residences resort

The Triforêt alpin.resort, nestled in Hinterstoder in Upper Austria, comes under FMTG management and becomes the very first resort developed under the Falkensteiner Residences brand, launched to carry addresses with an independent character. The estate brings together 41 apartments and 20 chalets at the foot of the slopes, complemented by a spa offering and personalized services in the house spirit. Its opening under the brand is expected for summer 2026.

Saalbach-Hinterglemm, a 5-star hotel at the foot of the slopes

Still in the mountains, FMTG is preparing the Falkensteiner Hotel Saalbach-Hinterglemm for late 2026, in one of Austria’s largest ski areas. The 5-star establishment will open its doors directly at the foot of the Reiterkogelbahn, with 127 entirely redesigned rooms and suites and over 2,000 m² dedicated to the spa, including outdoor pools. A high-end ski-in ski-out positioning in a highly competitive alpine market.

Loipersdorf, Austria’s largest thermal resort

A change of scenery in Southeastern Styria, where the group is taking over the operational development of Thermenresort Loipersdorf, the country’s largest thermal resort, which attracts some 478,000 visitors every year, as well as the Das Sonnreich hotel and its congress center. The operation extends FMTG’s footprint beyond the mountains into the growing thermal wellness segment and provides it with a year-round destination asset.

Our take

These three announcements outline a clear strategy: FMTG is densifying its Austrian domestic market rather than racing internationally, playing on three complementary registers: the high-altitude chalet, the large ski hotel, and the lowland thermal resort. The launch of Falkensteiner Residences, a brand tailored for resorts with a unique profile, gives the group a vehicle to capture existing assets without melting them into a single mold. A methodical consolidation, to be watched as alpine hospitality attracts more and more investors.
