The Hong Kong-based Harilela group will place its three The Hari hotels under the Vignette Collection banner, IHG’s upscale collection. The operation concerns London, Hong Kong and Singapore, and illustrates a discreet but profound shift in how major hotel groups recruit independent properties.
Three properties, three landmark districts
The Hari London occupies an address in Belgravia, one of the most exclusive districts of the British capital, with 85 rooms. The Hari Hong Kong, in Wan Chai, has 210. The third, The Hari Singapore, will open on Orchard Road with 324 rooms.
The first two will join the collection in 2026, with the Singaporean property following in 2027. In total, 619 rooms are moving into IHG’s fold, in three cities where high-end hotel real estate is virtually never available.

A partnership that has lasted half a century
Harilela and IHG have been working together for over fifty years, and now have six joint properties across five destinations. Rajit Sukumaran, IHG Senior Vice President, speaks of a « privilege to celebrate over fifty years of partnership », while Aron Harilela, Chairman of the family group, highlights the benefit of a « unified brand partnership opportunity ».
Behind the diplomatic wording, the owner’s interest is clear : to retain The Hari name, its staff and its style, while gaining access to the booking engine and loyalty programme of a group that has just exceeded one million rooms.
Why collections are gaining ground
Vignette Collection now exceeds 80 hotels open or in pipeline, with a stated goal of 100 properties within its first decade. This format addresses a long-standing challenge: high-quality independent hotels previously refused to join a brand, fearing they would lose their character and be aligned with chain standards.
This format occupies a specific place in the hierarchy of hotel brands, between the classic brand and the pure independent. Collections overcome this obstacle by allowing the property to keep its name, decor, and cuisine, imposing only a core set of services and distribution. For a group, it is also the fastest way to enter districts where it could not build, such as Belgravia or Orchard Road. The acquisition of three properties at once, in three different cities, is a clear demonstration of this.
