Setting & heritage: a garden in the 9th
Rue Cadet didn’t ask for much, and that’s what makes the place so delightful. Behind the green façade lies a true lush garden, the star of the show and the ultimate luxury in this dense 9th arrondissement district. The heritage of the site · a former herbalist’s plot · inspired the botanical theme that Brudnizki develops with his usual virtuosity: bold colours, patterns, materials; nothing takes itself too seriously, and everything is masterfully executed.
Rooms & suites: cheerfulness on every floor
The 73 rooms and suites extend the theme: painted headboards, almond greens and powdery pinks, bright bathrooms. We are in the realm of the dream country house rather than the ceremonial palace · less marble, more charm. The finest keys open onto the garden or the rooftops; the soundproofing is beyond reproach.
Dining & bars: Californian inspiration
The hotel’s restaurant, Golden Poppy, cultivates a Californian-inspired, plant-based, and sunny cuisine, served in a room that is among the most photogenic in Paris and extended by the garden in fine weather. The food is refined but does not reach the gastronomic heights of the palaces in this ranking · the bar, however, is worth a visit for its botanical cocktails.
Spa & pool: intimacy over performance
The spa continues the botanical metaphor in soft lighting: baths, treatment rooms, and well-thought-out rituals, in a deliberately intimate format. Swimmers will be left wanting more · there is no lap pool here · but for a getaway for two, the place works perfectly.
Service: studied relaxation
The staff embrace the hotel’s ethos: smiling, relaxed, without obsequiousness · a world away from the ceremonial nature of palaces. The downside of this lightness: a few minor inaccuracies (delays in room service, a less sharp concierge). Nothing that spoils the stay, but everything that still distinguishes a very good five-star from a palace.
Value for money: the right price for poetry
Positioned below palace rates but above the neighbourhood’s boutique hotels, La Fantaisie charges for its atmosphere as much as its services · and the atmosphere is worth it. For a Parisian stay that offers a change from gold and marble, the value for money is fair: 8.0, without hesitation.
