- The Kimpton El Castelar opened in July 2026 at 107 Emilio Castelar, in the heart of Polanquito, the chic centre of Polanco in Mexico City.
- Just 34 rooms, in the restored Roel building (1940), designed by architect Francisco J. Serrano, a figure of Mexican Art Nouveau.
- Free bicycles, yoga mats in every room, daily Social Hour and pet-friendly welcome: the Kimpton recipe, CDMX version.
Polanco has a new exclusive address. The Kimpton El Castelar, the latest addition to IHG’s luxury and lifestyle collection, has opened its doors in the heart of Polanquito, Mexico City’s most sought-after micro-district, nestled among galleries, terraces, and designer boutiques.
A 1940s Masterpiece Resurrected
The hotel breathes new life into the Roel building, completed in 1940 and designed by Francisco J. Serrano, one of the greats of Mexican architecture. The restoration blends historic lines with contemporary design inspired by Mexican craftsmanship: light woods, local textiles, ceramics, and natural light. With 34 rooms and suites, the scale remains that of a private residence.

The Kimpton Art of Living, Mexican Style
The brand rolls out its rituals: complimentary coffee in the morning (Kimpton Kickstart), a daily Social Hour with a complimentary drink, free bicycles to explore Polanco, yoga mats in every room, and a pet-friendly policy with no extra charge. The hotel joins its sister property, the Kimpton Virgilio, opened in 2024 just a few streets away: Polanco is becoming the brand’s Mexican laboratory.

Our View
With two Kimptons in Polanco in two years, IHG confirms that Mexico City is establishing itself as a major hub for boutique hotels in Latin America. The gamble with El Castelar is spot on: rare architectural heritage, an intimate scale, and a neighbourhood at the peak of its desirability. The 34 keys are sure to be in high demand.
