The Madrid EDITION hotel: the €20,000-a-night penthouse where Shakira is staying for her twelve Madrid concerts

For a month, Madrid is living to the rhythm of Shakira. For her twelve concerts from 18 September to 11 October 2026, the Colombian singer has checked into The Madrid EDITION, staying in the Madrid Penthouse, a 460 sqm duplex with a private infinity pool priced at around 20,000 euros a night, according to the Spanish press. An address fitting for a residency hosting 600,000 spectators, and the pinnacle of Madrid’s hotel scene since its opening in 2022.

A 460 sqm duplex above the rooftops of Madrid

The hotel features two penthouses on the fourth and top floor; Shakira is occupying the largest one, the Madrid Penthouse. Spread across two levels, 162 sqm of interior space opens through floor-to-ceiling windows onto a 298 sqm terrace, complete with a private infinity pool, sun loungers and an outdoor lounge planted with olive trees. Inside: a king-size bed, a separate dressing room, an eight-seater marble dining table, a fully equipped kitchen with a service entrance, a rain shower and a bathtub positioned to face the city rooftops.

The service matches the setting: a dedicated butler, a 24/7 gym, and the privacy of a floor that no one passes through by chance. The Spanish press reports a rate of around 20,000 euros per night, rising to 25,000 depending on the season, making it the most expensive room in the capital. Over a month-long residency, the bill runs into hundreds of thousands of euros, a minor detail compared to the earnings from twelve sold-out shows.

Private pool facing the Royal Palace

It is the terrace that makes all the difference. From the pool, the gaze stretches across to the Royal Palace, the Teatro Real and the domes of the Almudena Cathedral, a panorama that Madrid usually reserves for the upper floors of buildings along Gran Vía. The hotel was built on the site of the former Monte de Piedad bank headquarters, on the corner of Plaza de las Descalzas, right in the historic heart of the city.

The urban resort by Pawson and Champsaur

Opened in April 2022 by Ian Schrager and Marriott International, The Madrid EDITION was conceived as an urban resort. British architect John Pawson designed the structure and the grand white lobby staircase, while Parisian designer François Champsaur created the interiors for the 200 rooms and suites, featuring cream tones, sculpted headboards and plush carpets. On the rooftop, the pool lined with cabanas is one of the largest in central Madrid.

Dining is just as important as the design: Jerónimo, offering chef Enrique Olvera’s Mexican cuisine on the ground floor, and Oroya, serving Diego Muñoz’s Peruvian dishes beneath the colorful lanterns of the rooftop. The Lobby Bar, with its fireplace and stone bar, has become one of the city’s go-to meeting spots.

Twelve nights in Villaverde

Shakira’s Madrid residency is a European first for her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” tour. Rather than hopping from city to city, the singer has commissioned a temporary stadium within the Iberdrola Music grounds in the south of the city, welcoming over 50,000 spectators per night from 18 September to 11 October. Between concerts, she heads back to sleep a fifteen-minute drive away, just above Puerta del Sol.

For Madrid’s hotel industry, the impact is immediate. Twelve shows with 50,000 attendees each mean nearly 600,000 spectators, including many travelling from Europe and Latin America, requiring accommodation over a four-week period, following a September already strained by the Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Our verdict

Shakira’s choice speaks volumes about Madrid’s hotel hierarchy. Compared to the historic grand hotels of Paseo del Prado like the Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Four Seasons or Rosewood Villa Magna, it is the newest and most design-forward address that wins out, thanks to an asset the others lack: an open-air private pool, hidden from the street, perched above the historic centre. For a star spending a month inside her room, the terrace matters more than the gilding.
