◆ May 2026 · Escaldes-Engordany · 4-star hotel
The Principality of Andorra’s first Small Luxury Hotels of the World property, certified LEED v4 Gold, the Blackpine opens seventeen rooms and a Bistro restaurant a short walk from Andorra la Vella. Our full review after a visit.

In a Principality that has long confined its upscale hospitality to the foot of ski slopes, the arrival of the Blackpine in Escaldes-Engordany, the parish adjacent to the capital, shifts the centre of gravity. Andorra’s first hotel member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and the Principality’s first hotel building certified LEED v4 Gold by the US Green Building Council, the property aims to move the destination from winter ski resort to design city-break. Its chosen approach is deliberately focused: seventeen keys, a single restaurant, and a sustainability dossier legible down to the recycled-wood do-not-disturb sign.
◆ A boutique hotel raising the Andorran standard
Small Luxury Hotels of the World, LEED Gold and zero plastic

The Blackpine presents itself as Andorra’s first hotel admitted to the international Small Luxury Hotels of the World network, which brings together approximately 580 independent properties across some eighty countries. The property is also rated 4-star in the Andorran classification system, but clearly aims beyond the local standard: limited volume (17 keys), a coherent aesthetic parti-pris from floor to ceiling, and sustainability integrated from the structure itself.
Even more unusual for a Pyrenean address: the LEED v4 BD+C Gold certification awarded by the American Green Building Council. This label validates the building’s environmental performance from design through daily operation: materials, water and energy consumption, indoor air quality. The hotel is also pursuing WELL certification, focused on occupant wellbeing.
In concrete terms: no single-use plastic in guest areas (filtered water in carafes, refillable dispensers for toiletries, recycled-wood do-not-disturb signs), solar thermal panels for hot water, geothermal heat pump for heating. All under the scrutiny of Small Luxury Hotels, which regularly audits its members’ compliance with guest experience standards.
First SLH, first LEED Gold, zero plastic: the Blackpine sets a new standard for the Principality of Andorra.
◆ Seventeen keys and a table open to the street
Light oak, Atollo lamps and seasonal bistronomy

The capacity is intentionally contained. Five categories share the seventeen keys: Standard, Superior, Deluxe, Junior Suite and Suite Terraza. The palette is consistent throughout: light oak in vertical planks, boucle textiles in ecru and taupe tones, crisp white bedding, Atollo lamps by Vico Magistretti for Oluce on the bedside table. The bedding uses a King Koil mattress, an American reference in upscale hospitality, paired with organic cotton sheets.
In terms of in-room amenities, expect a Nespresso machine, Bluetooth speaker, unlimited filtered water in a carafe, magnifying mirror, branded bathrobes and slippers. The Suites Terraza, tucked under the eaves, add a separate sitting area beneath exposed timber framing and a private terrace, making them the most sought-after rooms in the house.

The hotel’s sole restaurant, simply called the Bistro, operates on a continuous service basis and remains open to non-residents. The offering is deliberately accessible rather than gastronomic, a deliberate stance that sets the Blackpine apart from Soldeu or Pas de la Casa ski palaces, where the signature restaurant typically holds a Michelin star. Here the register is seasonal bistronomy, with an explicit mention of vegetarian, gluten-free and lactose-free options on the menu, still rare in Andorran hospitality. Expect approximately €35 to €45 for a two-course lunch with a glass of wine.

Rates start at around €230 per night for a Standard room in low season, climbing beyond €450 in peak season for the Suites Terraza. The positioning targets an international clientele, primarily from Spain and France, drawn to the design experience, quiet comfort and the sustainability argument.
For a city-spa weekend (Caldea, Southern Europe’s largest thermal complex, is five minutes on foot), a ski-and-shopping stay in Andorra, or a small-format business or MICE trip, the Blackpine fills the gap that was missing in the Principality: an urban design boutique hotel, rated 4-star but operated like a five.
Worth noting: no integrated spa (the neighbouring Caldea serves as a thermal annex), no swimming pool, a single restaurant. Guests seeking the full mountain palace package (private spa, champagne bar, several restaurants) will need to turn to the altitude resorts of Grandvalira or Vallnord.
