Cala Santandria, on the west coast of Menorca, had a reputation as a quiet cove without any notable addresses. It now has its own. Le Rivelian Grand Menorca opened its doors in the summer of 2026, following three years of construction and an investment of around 24 million euros, including two million in public subsidies. Fifty keys, a spa, a restaurant: the property arrives on a Balearic market where ultra-luxury has hitherto been concentrated in Mallorca and Ibiza.
Fifty keys three kilometres from Ciutadella
The property is located on the west of the island, three kilometres from the historic port of Ciutadella and about forty kilometres from Maó airport. This choice of location is a statement in itself: neither the hustle and bustle of the capital, nor complete isolation. The building adopts low-rise lines and light tones, in keeping with local limestone, on an island classified as a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 1993.
The operations and positioning of the address have been entrusted to Somos Design, a hotel consultancy firm marking its first venture into luxury resort management. One point worth noting: this is not an international brand stamping its name on an asset, but an independent operator building its very first flagship.

Four room types, including two with water access
Fifty keys is few, and deliberately so. The breakdown into four categories outlines a clear gradation rather than a mere catalogue. The Deluxe rooms open the range on a sober note. The Junior Suites expand the volumes and welcome natural light, featuring furniture designed specifically for the property.
The two top categories are what make the commercial difference. The Junior Suite Swim Up rooms offer direct access to the shared pool from their terrace. As for the Junior Suite Private Pool rooms, each boasts its own private swimming pool. It is Le Rivelian’s answer to a demand that has become structural in this segment: having one’s own water, without having to cross common areas.
The Lithica Spa and the thermal contrast gamble
The spa’s name is not merely decorative. Lithica refers to the island’smarès stone quarries, those hand-carved stone trenches that form part of Menorcan heritage. The thermal circuit focuses on hot-cold contrast rather than relaxation alone, featuring ice baths that respond to the trend for recovery protocols.
The gym has been developed with Thomas Wellness, a Spanish specialist in high-end equipment. The bathrooms in the rooms extend this logic: natural stone, freestanding bathtubs, and an assumed continuity with the spa universe.
Santandria Bay, the Mediterranean with oriental accents
The signature restaurant bears the name of the bay. The menu relies on the island’s producers market gardeners, fishermen and livestock farmers with oriental touches that elevate Mediterranean classics. The culinary gamble is one of controlled departure: spices on rockfish, rather than fusion for the sake of fusion.
The cocktail bar works with aromatic herbs from the garden, and the terrace naturally plays the sunset card, given its western orientation. The cellar highlights organic and biodynamic wines from the Balearic Islands and the mainland.
Open until October 31st: the true signal
This is perhaps the most interesting decision in the project. Menorca suffers from severe seasonality, concentrated in July and August. By staying open until October 31st, Le Rivelian takes a stance against the dominant island model.
Yet the Menorcan shoulder season offers conditions that many travellers look for: mild temperatures, deserted coves, low-angled light. For the island, the stakes go beyond the hotel: extended opening stabilises employment and smooths out tourist pressure. It remains to be seen whether October occupancy rates will follow.
Our perspective
Le Rivelian arrives in a niche that Menorca did not previously occupy. The island has long left resort luxury to its neighbours, cultivating a discretion that was as much a virtue as it was a sign of under-equipment. Twenty-four million euros for fifty keys sets the level of ambition.
Two points seem decisive to us for the future. The first is the ability of Somos Design, an independent operator without international renown, to fill an address of this calibre against established brands. The second is the success of the shoulder season: if October works, others will follow, and the island’s tourism model will change for good.
