Accor is not opening five MGallery hotels in 2026 to chase volume: the largest of the five features 155 rooms, the smallest 35. The collection takes the opposite approach to major brands, offering boutique hotels anchored in their surroundings, each with its own chef, designer or story. From the Maldives to Île d’Oléron via two Greek islands and Chengdu, the 2026 vintage embodies the essence of MGallery: a segment where storytelling takes precedence over standardisation.

Two islands marking an entry into beach hospitality

V Villas Maldives at Mirihi is the first MGallery in the Maldives, and Accor has conceived it entirely as an all-villa resort: 42 villas designed by Studio Gronda, including four set over the water with private pools. The service meets the expectations of South Ari Atoll’s clientele, featuring a dedicated butler, three dining venues including an overwater restaurant, and Mirihi Thari, a private yacht for whale shark and manta ray excursions. A thirty-minute seaplane flight from Malé. We covered the project’s signing in December.

In Mykonos, Kove Hotel & Spa occupies a position few addresses on the island can claim, between the coasts of Ornos and Korfos, complete with a private beach. Thirty-five rooms, a spa carved into the rock and a signature touch that defines its positioning: a private dawn crossing to Delos, the archaeological island. Mykonos has been moving upscale over the past two years, as highlighted by the arrival of Four Seasons in Kalo Livadi.

Samos and Oléron: Two wagers on unexpected destinations

Nírema Hotel & Spa Samos will be the island’s first MGallery, facing Vathy Bay. Seventy-two rooms, eight suites with pools, and a cellar dedicated to Samos Muscat, the sweet wine that built the island’s reputation. The brand weaves this into a distinct narrative, blending local viticulture with the philosophy of Pythagoras, who was born in Samos. The opening is scheduled for autumn 2026.

In France, Bel Hôtel Oléron Thalasso & Spa is the most ambitious piece of the puzzle. Completely reimagined, it features 102 rooms, a restaurant named OYAT with menus overseen by Pierre Gagnaire, and a 27-cabin Phytomer thalassotherapy centre, complete with a seawater pool, hammam and sauna. Located on Gatseau Beach and backed by the state forest, it gives MGallery a high-end thalassotherapy address on the Atlantic coast, a niche the brand previously did not occupy.

Chengdu: The tenth Chinese address

Opened in August, Financial City Chengdu is the city’s third MGallery and the tenth in China. Its 155 rooms, designed by Stack Studio, draw inspiration from Tang dynasty poet Zhang Ji, while a centuries-old lychee tree has been preserved at the entrance. With 480 sqm of meeting space and a rooftop garden, the hotel caters equally to the financial district’s business clientele and weekend leisure travellers. We detailed this opening at the end of August.

Our perspective

The coherence of these five openings lies in their scale. None exceeds 155 keys, three feature fewer than a hundred, and each relies on an irreplaceable local element: a wine, a poet, a beach, a chef. This is precisely the territory standardized major brands cannot claim, and it is where Accor positions MGallery to attract guests who value storytelling just as much as the room itself.

The real test lies elsewhere: the promise of a boutique “home” depends entirely on execution, not press releases. A successful MGallery is one where the brand name is forgotten. Five openings in a single year across four countries also mean five execution risks. We will be checking for ourselves, starting with Oléron, just two hours from Paris.
