Where was The Devil Wears Prada filmed? From the Plaza Athénée to the Palazzo Parigi, the films’ real hotels

Twenty years after the first film, The Devil Wears Prada 2 was released in French cinemas on 29 April 2026. Its real hotels are not always the ones in the story: Miranda Priestly’s Plaza Athénée was played in New York, by the St. Regis, and Paris is not a location in the sequel, which was shot in Manhattan, Milan and on Lake Como.

In brief
  • 🎬 The 2006 film · the Plaza Athénée is Miranda’s Paris hotel, but her suite was filmed at the St. Regis New York.
  • 🍸 King Cole Bar · the St. Regis New York bar also appears in the first film.
  • 🇮🇹 The 2026 film · shot in New York from 30 June 2025, then in Milan and on Lake Como in autumn 2025.
  • 🏨 Palazzo Parigi · lobby, Caffè Parigi and façade on screen; the crew and cast stayed there for several weeks.
  • 💶 Prices · from €1,411 (Palazzo Parigi) to €3,285 (St. Regis) for the night of 17 to 18 November 2026, checked on 13/10.

In The Devil Wears Prada (2006), Miranda Priestly stays at the Plaza Athénée on avenue Montaigne during the story’s trip to Paris. The palace hotel points this out itself in the Dorchester Collection magazine marking its 110th anniversary.

But the scene in which Andy finds Miranda without make-up in her suite was not shot in Paris: it was filmed in New York, like part of the ‘Parisian’ scenes. Meryl Streep never made the trip.

Opened on 20 April 1913, the palace has 154 rooms and 54 suites and has belonged to the Dorchester Collection since 2001. Inside are the Dior Spa, Le Relais Plaza, the restaurant Jean Imbert au Plaza Athénée and La Cour Jardin, open in season under its red awnings.

St. Regis New York: Miranda’s real suite

The film’s Paris suite is in fact the Presidential Suite of the St. Regis New York, at 2 East 55th Street, on the corner of Fifth Avenue. That is where the scene of Miranda without make-up was shot.

The same hotel lends the film another setting: the King Cole Bar, beneath Maxfield Parrish’s Old King Cole mural. Opened in 1904 by John Jacob Astor IV, the St. Regis offers butler service in every room.

Palazzo Parigi, filmed during Fashion Week

Produced by 20th Century Studios and directed by David Frankel, The Devil Wears Prada 2 began filming on 30 June 2025 in New York: Midtown, Chelsea, SoHo, Brooklyn, the McGraw-Hill Building (1221 Avenue of the Americas) and the American Museum of Natural History. Filming then moved to Italy in autumn 2025.

In Milan, according to the hotel’s official website, the Palazzo Parigi Hotel & Grand Spa served as a set during Fashion Week, with scenes in the lobby, at the Caffè Parigi and in front of the façade. For several weeks it also put up the crew and cast in its suites.

The film takes in other Milan addresses: the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Piazza del Duomo, the Pinacoteca di Brera, the Quadrilatero della Moda fashion district, Il Salumaio di Montenapoleone, Palazzo Clerici and Villa Arconati.

Why are the film’s rooms on Long Island?

The hotel says so in its own FAQ: the rooms and suites seen on screen are not its own. They were recreated at the Woolworth Mansion, also known as Winfield Hall, in Glen Cove, on Long Island.

Another editing shortcut: the Tiffany & Co. boutique shown opposite the hotel is actually about 950 m away, on Via Montenapoleone.

Lake Como: Villa Balbiano, completed around 1680

On Lake Como, Villa Balbiano, in Ossuccio (in the municipality of Tremezzina), plays Benji Barnes’s villa; the cast arrive by boat. Completed around 1680 by the Gallio family and owned from 1787 by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, it was restored after 2011 by Jacques Garcia and had already served as a set for House of Gucci (2021).

The villa cannot be booked by the room: it is rented on an exclusive-use basis, for weddings or private stays, with no official published rate. During filming, Anne Hathaway stayed at the Grand Hotel Victoria in Menaggio, a five-star Liberty-style hotel on the lakeshore, where she was seen on 12 October 2025.
