Choosing Rio was no accident. In 1961, Marc Bohan, Dior’s artistic director from 1960 to 1989, presented a haute couture collection in the palace gardens. In 1975, he picked Copacabana Beach, just across the road, to shoot his swimwear collection. More than half a century later, the house is moving into the hotel that opened in 1923 on Avenida Atlântica.

The Dior Spa Copacabana Palace will bring together six treatment rooms, including a double room, a few steps from the pool. A Dior boutique will sell skincare, make-up and fragrances, and a lounge will let guests linger over the Haute Wellness collection, couture accessories and jewellery. The only image released so far is a rendering of a treatment room, with pale wood panelling and a green stone wall.

For Rio, Dior has teamed up exclusively with Brazilian dermatologist Dr Maria Bussade, founder of Bussade Health in São Paulo. Together they have created two treatments for the palace. The Couture Radiance Facial combines massage, Les Crins Précieux dry brushing and microcurrents; it will cost 2,350 BRL for 90 minutes. The Carioca High Sculpt is a body treatment that sculpts the Brazilian way, detoxifies and tones.

The signature ritual, the Healing Heart Ceremony, will be unique to the Copacabana Palace: inspired by the energy of the ocean, it sets semi-precious stones vibrating in harmony with singing bowls. The menu also features the house’s Haute Wellness treatments: Kobi-Dior, a precision facial massage inspired by Japanese Kobido and co-created with Hadda Akrim, Dior’s international wellness expert, using cryo stones; and New Look Dior, a body treatment blending sculpting, drainage and microstimulation.

Prices are already online on the Belmond website. Kobi-Dior starts at 1,300 BRL for 60 minutes, as do the New Look, Constellation and D-Tissue massages. Golden Aura, Sculpted in the Sun and Skin Reset Facial are listed at 2,350 BRL for 90 minutes, and 9 Moons at 1,600 BRL for 90 minutes.

La Collection Privée, exclusive to Rio

The boutique will be the only address in Rio selling La Collection Privée, Francis Kurkdjian’s haute parfumerie line, and L’Or de Vie, the skincare made with extracts from Château d’Yquem. It will also stock the Prestige line, built around the Granville rose, and Dior Maison, the house’s wellness line, making its debut in Brazil.

The spa is part of the transformation of the Pool Wing, which we covered in September: 68 suites with balconies, in a wing redesigned by architect Ivan Rezende, taking the palace to 208 rooms and suites. Of the five floors devoted to wellness, the Dior Spa will occupy one in full. The others will house the Copa Wellness Club: Technogym fitness across two ground-floor spaces, a yoga and movement studio, a space dedicated to Brazilian jiu-jitsu and personal trainers.

On the 2nd floor, a thermal area for contrast therapy will feature saunas, including an infrared one, a hammam, an ice bath and an ice fountain. The club will also have a relaxation lounge (botanical waters, teas) and the Suco Bar, serving juices, bowls and speciality coffee made with Brazilian ingredients; a hair salon, a barber and a private Beauty Lounge, designed for wedding and event preparations, will round it off. Spa and club will be open daily from 10am to 8pm, to outside visitors too.

Venice, Taormina, then Rio beyond Europe

At Belmond, Dior first opened its spa at the Cipriani in Venice, then at the Grand Hotel Timeo in Taormina, the first permanent Dior Spa in Sicily, with four treatment rooms, which opened in summer 2026. Rio will be the partnership’s first stop outside Europe, in a palace already recognised in our pick of the 2026 MICHELIN Keys in Brazil.
