Tivoli Palazzo 1880 Lecce: Minor Hotels Opens Its First Five-Star Hotel in Puglia

Last updated:
In brief
  • Minor Hotels has inaugurated the Tivoli Palazzo 1880 Lecce, a five-star hotel housed in a 19th-century stately palace, in the heart of Lecce’s Baroque centre (Puglia).
  • 48 rooms and suites, three dining areas including a rooftop overlooking the cathedral’s bell tower, and a heated indoor saltwater pool.
  • This is the first Tivoli address in Puglia and the fourth in Italy, after Portopiccolo, Florence, and Milan.

Lecce was awaiting its summer opening. With the Tivoli Palazzo 1880 Lecce, Minor Hotels is establishing its luxury brand in the heart of the “Florence of the South”, within a fully restored 19th-century palace. This is a first for Tivoli in Puglia, a region that has become one of the most sought-after destinations in the Mediterranean.

A Palace from 1880 in the Heart of Lecce’s Baroque

The hotel occupies a stately palazzo with origins dating back to the 16th century, which became the prestigious Risorgimento hotel at the end of the 19th century. Located on Via Augusto Imperatore, between Piazza Sant’Oronzo and Piazzetta Santa Chiara, it places Lecce’s Baroque masterpieces just a stone’s throw from the rooms. The restoration has preserved the soul of the place: Lecce stone, period volumes, and original architectural details interact with a sober contemporary design.

48 Rooms and Suites Blending Heritage and Design

The 48 rooms and suites exude a southern elegance crafted from noble materials: light tones, wood, marble, and subtle references to the palace’s past. The most beautiful ones open onto a balcony or terrace, with views over the historic centre’s rooftops. The scale remains that of a townhouse, far from standardised resorts.

Rooftop, Dining, and Wellness

The rooftop terrace is the property’s masterstroke: a rooftop lounge bar facing the cathedral’s bell tower, designed for aperitivo at sunset. Downstairs, the signature restaurant and lobby bar offer revisited Salento cuisine; in a tranquil setting, the wellness area centres around a heated indoor saltwater pool. In summer, partnerships with beach clubs on the Adriatic and Ionian coasts extend the stay to the seaside.

Minor Hotels Accelerates in Italy

Tivoli Palazzo 1880 Lecce is the fourth Italian address for the Tivoli brand, following Tivoli Portopiccolo Sistiana Wellness Resort & Spa on the Adriatic coast, Tivoli Palazzo Gaddi in Florence, and Tivoli President in Milan. “This hotel represents the group’s first address in Puglia and a relevant addition to Lecce’s high-end offering, combining the brand’s operational expertise with a destination-focused proposition,” summarises Gonzalo Aguilar, CEO of Minor Hotels Europe & Americas. The group is openly targeting Southern Italy, where international demand is growing faster than the five-star supply.

Our View

After the Costa Smeralda and the Amalfi Coast, it is indeed Salento that is establishing itself as the new frontier of Italian luxury. By choosing a historic palace right in the centre of Lecce rather than a seaside resort, Minor is playing a clever card: the Baroque city is vibrant year-round, while the beaches close in October. Partnerships with beach clubs on both coasts offer the best of both worlds. The challenge remains: to stand out against the charming masserie that have made the region famous, with an advantage few can match · its location.
