W Sardinia, Poltu Quatu: W Hotels Opens its Haven in a Sardinian Fjord

The Mediterranean hospitality scene welcomed a major new address in spring 2026. Following a preview opening during the 2025 summer season, W Sardinia, Poltu Quatu officially opened its doors in spring 2026 on the spectacular coastline of north-eastern Sardinia. Ideally positioned between Porto Cervo and Baia Sardinia, the resort overlooks the turquoise waters of Marina dell’Orso within the embrace of an intimate natural fjord. In ancient Sardinian dialect, Poltu Quatu means ‘hidden port’ · a promise of discretion and serenity in the heart of a dramatic mineral landscape.

A dramatic integration into the Poltu Quatu fjord

The resort cascades down a wind-sculpted granite cliff, forming a Mediterranean village of whitewashed facades. The project reinterprets the original architecture by Jean-Claude Lesuisse by elevating its slender arches, vaulted niches, and organic openings to establish a natural flow towards the sea.

Guests are welcomed by an imposing ‘W’ sculpture created by Sardinian artist Nicola Filia. Crafted from patinated steel and cracked clay, this monumental piece pays homage to the region’s industrial heritage while highlighting the island’s environmental vulnerability. This landscape integration approach sits at the core of the W Hotels brand’s elevated evolution.

As the W Hotels brand continues to evolve, we focused on design codes

“As the W Hotels brand continues to evolve, we focused on sophisticated design codes while infusing a creative flair into this luxurious, intimate haven, ideally nestled between emerald waters, granite rocks, and wild vegetation.”

Meyer Davis’s creative imprint and Sardinian craftsmanship

To design the resort’s interiors, New York-based studio Meyer Davis, previously behind W Rome, partnered with DE. Tales to weave an ongoing dialogue between cosmopolitan modernity and island craftsmanship.

A lobby shaped by Janas legends and mineral textures

The lobby’s atmosphere draws inspiration from local legends of the Janas, fairy-like creatures said to inhabit coastal caves and watch over Sardinian sailors. Sinuous curves, soft lighting, and undulating finishes evoke the fluidity of the seabed.

Behind the reception desk, a ceramic wall panel crafted by local artisan Luca Scassellati sits alongside hammered metals and noble Orosei marble flooring. Further along, the W Lounge showcases a fresco dedicated to Tanit, the Phoenician goddess of the sea, surrounded by sandy-toned furniture and decorative elements inspired by marine treasures.

For the design of W Sardinia, Poltu Quatu, we were inspired by the balance

“For the design of W Sardinia, Poltu Quatu, we were inspired by the balance between two identities: the unmistakable energy of the W brand and the unique character of Sardinia. This duality served as our guiding principle.”

Suites imbued with art and Nuragic heritage

In the rooms and suites, the decor embraces a soothing palette of ecru tones, warm woods, and marine blue. Bespoke ceramic headboards pay direct homage to the geometric patterns of Nuragic civilisation, creating an atmosphere deeply rooted in Sardinia’s history.

Curated by art studio Kooness, the private spaces feature works by regional artists such as Walter Usai for ceramics, Fabrizio Sanna for woven tapestries, Cinzia Murgia for paintings, and Giuseppe Chironi for aerial photography prints. The property’s crowning jewel, the Penthouse Suite, boasts an expansive panoramic terrace with a private plunge pool, fully equipped kitchen, and bespoke bar for utterly secluded stays.

Seafood dining and festive vibes throughout the day

The resort’s culinary offering celebrates Mediterranean flavours through immersive concepts opening onto the marina and the open sea.

TANIT restaurant and the Dolce Room

TANIT reinterprets Sardinian coastal fine dining on a panoramic waterfront terrace. Beneath thatched ceilings blending terracotta and polished nickel, guests savour refined fishermen’s cuisine to the rhythm of island slow dining.

The sweet experience is led by pastry chef Fabrizio Fiorani. In the Dolce Room, an interactive space dedicated to haute indulgence, he crafts contemporary creations that boldly revisit classic Italian pastries.

W Lounge, WET Deck, and W Beach Club

The WET Deck and its cascading pools form the vibrant heart of the resort by day, complete with private cabanas, light dining, and signature cocktails. At dusk, the W Lounge takes over with live music and exclusive DJ sets, while the W Beach Club celebrates summer energy on the shore.

Wellness and bespoke island experiences

The resort offers a comprehensive programme dedicated to rejuvenation and local exploration. The wellness area combines the Technogym-equipped FIT fitness centre with a full-service Spa opening in summer 2026. Sunrise yoga sessions and energising walks along the marina complement this wellness journey.

With its private marina, the hotel arranges boat excursions to the secluded coves of the Costa Smeralda and the islands of La Maddalena. Artist residencies, Sardinian pasta-making masterclasses, and private encounters with ceramic artisans offer guests authentic cultural immersion.

Our view

The arrival of W Hotels in Poltu Quatu marks the brand’s successful evolution towards a more mature, contextualised luxury. Drawing on the genius loci envisioned by Jean-Claude Lesuisse and Meyer Davis’s sharp design vision, the hotel group blends the festive spirit intrinsic to its DNA with a genuine tribute to Sardinian craft. This address stands as an essential getaway for cosmopolitan travellers seeking a vibrant yet exclusive Mediterranean coastal haven.
